Well, that’s not so bad considering you only use two fingers.
You know, I took a typing course in highschool – I think I was about 14 at the time – and I thought back then that it was such a waste of time because I wasn’t planning on being a secretary.
Turned out I did end up taking quite a few secretarial jobs later on, but of course the big bonus for knowing how to touch type is that when I’m posting online, and especially on IM chats, that I can type almost as fast as I would normally talk. I’m sure that Mrs Gillespie would be very proud of me! 🙂
what’s scary for me? i type a lot faster than i think – which isn’t really that fast, i suppose. this makes ‘angry e-mail moments’ rather dangerous. i’ve considered putting an ‘anger meter’ on my office computer – sensing how hard i’m typing – and then it will hold all ‘angry grams’ for 24 hours.
Well – not like a programmer or some such, but I use e-mail and various other systems that mean I know where all the keys are.
If I try to touch type, then the speed goes WAY down, but if I look vaguely at the keyboard while I type then I can keep up a reasonable speed.
Brings back the 6 months worth of typing lessons I had at College (secondary school) in New Zealand. Typing to music:
ASDFGFJHJKL; Carriage return.
The teacher didn’t take much notice of the boys, but the girls were told that if they looked at the typewriters after the first few lessosn then they would be made to wear a bib so that the keyboard was obscured. If only I had known how the world was going to shape up, I might have tried a bit harder then to perfect the skills.
after a tiring day at work, i did:
You type 419 characters per minute
You have 77 correct words and
you have 1 wrong words
yeah. i guess that’s pretty fast.
Yeah, doesn’t it make an amazing difference? Though I find that I still have to peek at the keyboard for some numbers and punctuation. And I’m really clumsy on the laptop keyboard.
You type 412 characters per minute
You have 80 correct words and
you have 0 wrong words
I hit 90 in high school, I think J was ~100 when she was in school.
It’s interesting that I know I’m peeking, because when I type in a dark room, I start making a lot more mistakes. I think part of it is placing my hand on the keyboard, it ends up in the wrong spot in the dark. Fumbling in the dark…
I don’t think I’ve ever done much more than about 65, so 80 sounds pretty good to me.
Though typing tests I used to do were texts that included pronouns and articles and made sense when you read them, not just a bunch of random words like this one. I should think that texts would be ‘faster’ to type.
18 words
It’s official – I’m a dead slow typist.

So how fast do you type, daisy? Did you take the test?
Very good advice about leaving all ‘angry grams’ for 24 hours before posting.
Do you have to type at work, Johnny?

Not too shabby. 😉 I typed 4 and then 6 fingered for years until last year I learnt to do it properly. It makes an amazing difference.
