Or at least it all started at truce’s …
Most of you know what a gadget junkie I am. If not, just check out here and here and here and here and here (to mention but a few of my recent gadgety obsessions).
Anyhow, the other day I read about truce getting a new iPhone and kinda thought “oh, that would be nice” … then a few days later I saw an ad for one on TV showing a few of the very coolísimo things it can do and I’ve been filled with covetous desire ever since.
Of course, given my present situation (living on donations and having a rather uncertain future) this dream is not about to become a reality anytime soon, if ever. But I can still dream and yesterday Nog said that I may become the first person to overcome cancer because she wanted to justify buying herself an iPhone. 😉
Nog is onto something there, you know. The power of the mind to heal the body should not be underestimated.

It certainly sounds like a plan. A good plan. What colour iPhone are you thinking of buying?

Colour??? I thought it only came in black. But a quick google shows me that this latest model comes in three colours.
Absolutely, hmh. Especially as in order to buy myself a new iPhone next year I’m going to have to still be alive. 🙂
You know, it’s actually been quite easy to be frugal since the op. Well, first of all because I didn’t leave the house for about a month and barely ate anything. But even since then, and since starting chemo, I don’t really have any desire to buy anything that isn’t for immediate consumption. Hence, my only ‘luxury’ items have been the occasional book or dvd. I’ve got enough clothes, shoes – and even gadgets! – to see me through until at least next spring.
But it’s still nice to dream…

dreaming is good, and so is having something to look forward to. The iPhone will be worth the wait – and you can spend the next few months getting totally familiar with all its abilities and all the extra applications available for it so that when you’re done, you’ll instantly be an iPhone Ninja Master!!!

I must confess that yesterday I stopped by Telefónica and played around a bit on the iPhone they had on display (under strict supervision, otherwise I’d probably still be there). Wow! It really is wonderful!
Of course, the whole point of having one actually requires that I be healthy and out of the house a lot more than I am now. Mmmmm… can’t wait. 🙂

I just want a TV that works…
I went out and bought the cheapest flat-screen I could find (because I don’t want a great big TV taking up room) and needless to say, the cheapo ones are small. However, the one I bought was only about $40 less than some of the others I saw, and had a built in DVD player (and radio). It is a “kitchen” one so is designed to attache to the bottom of a cupboard.
However, the packaging was deceptive (well… that and I didn’t read the box and went by the photo… ) and when I got it home, I discovered that the screen is 8″!
I’d need binoculars to see the screen sitting only a few feet away!
I have to take it back. However, I saw it at Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire) in Kemptville and hunted all over the stores in Ottawa, so drove out to Kemptville to buy it. I am hoping they will take it back here in Ottawa, which saves me a 40 mile (each way) trip.
I might as well buy the slightly more expensive one, even though I don’t think it has a built-in DVD. I am hoping that the really cheapo DVD player I bought two years ago and could never get to work on my old TV actually DOES work on the one I eventually buy.

They should take it back at any Canadian Tire, Anneke. Don’t most of them have a wall bracket option (to save space)? If you also need to get a new dvd player then why not get a mini one like this one? They are quite cheap now and then you have the option of taking it on trips (or even to work on slow days 😉 ).
