aka the royal palace and gardens
The Alcázar (pronounced al-KA-thar ) is about a three-minute walk from casa az. It is also free to residents of Sevilla. I only have to show my ID card and don’t have to pay the 7 euro entrance fee. And yet I can’t even remember the last time I was there. To remedy this shameful situation, Nog and I decided to spend the morning at the Alcázar and it was lovely, especially as there weren’t as many tourists as usual. And so I’m planning to make this a weekly outing. I mean, it’s crazy not to.
I also took some photos and started a couple of new Fotki albums. One for the Alcázar and a separate one for the fabulous ceramic tiles (azulejos). Oh I know, mister anchovy, having lived in Toronto for about ten years (near the corner of Yonge & Isabella).
And where I live here (casa az is actually located somewhere in this postcard pic, the Alcázar is just to the left of the cathedral) it sometimes feels like I’m living on a movie set or something. And after 15 years I am still finding beautiful little details I hadn’t noticed previously. I’m so very lucky to live here.

Love those pictures. I guess just about everybody gets that underground cistern picture, it is such a fabulous thing. I have a photo that is almost exactly like yours in my collection. The Alcazar is amazing, isn’t it?

That is so very lovely! I love the photos, especially of the tiles — back in my art student days, I worked in ceramics — just vibrant and alive with color!
You do such a good job of advertising for Sevilla, it’s too bad they couldn’t hire you to toot their horn for them online!

The light is really gorgeous in there, hmh. Have you put your Seville and Portugal photos up on an online album?
The reason I made a separate album for the azulejos, SC, is that I had the idea of going around Sevilla and getting pics of tiles from all over the city. They really are everywhere, including some lovely blue ones in the stairwell of my building.
Always good to have another project and this one is not only free but also includes a lot of walking. 🙂
