When Craig (aka zoomer) was here he “lent” me his old Supacam with the proviso that I start a video blog. But so far I’ve only added a few very basic home movies to my Live Video page because I still haven’t figured out how to edit stuff. I downloaded some free editing software but it won’t recognise the AVI files from the Supacam. And when I tried using pretty Holly, her MOV files don’t even show up as an option (though they are in the My Videos file). So … help?
Meanwhile, I shot this short video for Craig the other day.
He’ll know why and will maybe tell you his “tuna story”.

What are you using? Windows Movie Maker is OK. And I think you can edit video on Picasa. I don’t know about free because I have two paid for suites that I edit with. And I will tell you the cheaper one is better.

I’m a strictly a “shoot more than what the director wants and then hand it over to the editor” kinda guy so I’ll spare you any editing advice. Thanks for the singing tunas, Az!!

I have no idea how to shoot or edit videos, sorry, but I just really enjoyed seeing the street tunes and the cats on the sofa (especially when Azahar yawned at the mention of the blogs! Classic!!)

Okay, the converter software I use (I really don’t need it unless I download stuff from the internet and need to render it into something usable) is Replay Converter.
OF COURSE, as soon as I started typing this I remembered the name even before looking to see what the name was.
You can get a “freebie” trial which is useless since it only converts the first few seconds of a clip. However, I have the full version which I use with great frequency. You can use it to convert video or audio files into files you can use, like MP3.
However, it is not a necessity.
I use Windows Movie Maker which works just fine for my needs, though I really would like a real “bells and whistles” video software like Adobe Premiere but can’t afford.
Windows Movie Maker, if you have Windows, should be already installed on your computer.

Anneke, Premiere Elements is really all you need, and it works well. I also have Pinnacle Studio 11, which is cheap, but then they nickle and dime you to get more things to work with. Premiere Elements doesn’t.

His name is actually Azar, which means luck or happenstance in Spanish. It’s basically pronounced the same as azahar (a-thar). Yeah, he’s always doing stuff like that, so much so that I am convinced he understands every word I say to him.
I’ve now tried both Windows Movie Maker and the Picasa video editor and am feeling very stupid … can’t figure out how they work. But I shall persevere!
