This is where Flor lives … beautiful, isn’t it?
Who’d have thought that going back to yoga class would not only be good for my health & well-being, but also for my social life? Last week I was walking into the gym at the same time as one of the new yoga members (well, new since I left last May) , who said hello to me and asked my name. I was expecting the usual confused response that Spanish people have when they first hear my name, but instead this woman said, “is that with a W?”. Ha! It turned out that she wasn’t Spanish at all, but a lovely and vibrant planetary citizen called Flor …
After class Flor invited me out for a coffee and I found out that she was born in France but has lived in many places around the world, speaks five languages and designs gardens for a living. She’s been living in Sevilla for nine years and has an ‘atico’ apartment with a wonderful rooftop terrace, which she shares with her 15-year-old son.
During our next after-yoga coffee Flor suddenly said to me – “oh, you must meet Ruth, she lives just upstairs!” – and after a short phone call we were joined by a very charming Australian woman who is a professional chef and who has also lived here for years.Β Check out Ruth’s website … doesn’t that look like a great way to spend a day in Sevilla?
I’d told Flor and Ruth about my tapa blog and clothing biz and how I was trying to get things going in order to make some money with either or both ventures, and thanks to Flor I may have another part-time biz happening.Β Yesterday she asked me if I could give her some basic computer classes, so she came over with her laptop and this somehow developed into giving her a whole “internet package” that included setting her up on Firefox, Netvibes, Twitter, Skype, Paypal, Picasa, Fotki and Gmail, as well as starting a WordPress blog for her. The next class will be showing her how to use these new toys as well as help her out with practical stuff like online banking. Anyhow, Flor was thrilled about having everything set up and easy to access, and said she knew of other people who would probably love to pay for a similar service so she’s going to spread the word.
Tomorrow Pip, Flor and I are going to have lunch together.
Stay tuned for photos…Β π

I don’t “know” any of you but somehow I think tomorrow’s lunch could be dangerous. Looking forward to the pics.

That’s great! (Well, aside from the fact that due to having a new friend who is a chef we are likely to be viewing more fantastic food photos which will cause me to be drooling all over my keyboard MORE than I have been already…)
You can never have too many friends (although you seem to be working on that…).

In fact I did comment to Flor and Ruth that taking that one positive step (going back to yoga classes) was really “paying off” in lots of other ways.
I agree that you can never have too many friends, mudhooks. Today I met Pip over at Fnac because she wanted to get some speakers for her iPod (I was her shopping advisor). In the end she got the same speakers I got last year, except they were way cheaper this year. Anyhow, we were at the till and started “nattering” at each other, kind of taking something said earlier and making it a bit ridiculous and silly but doing it all quite straightfaced … I don’t know if the cashier knew what we were saying but it was so just “what we do” that it left me smiling all afternoon. π

I love the blue in Flor’s apartment. One thing I loved about the Latino community when I lived in Colorado is that they aren’t afraid of vibrant color. Glad you are getting out and making friends. And luring poor unsuspecting souls to the internet.
