What do you think of my new theme?
It’s actually the theme I made for my new kitchen blog back in September, and I found that whenever I went over there I got a really pleasant feeling of well-being. I think it was all the green. Anyhow, I decided to swap themes, so if you can’t remember what the old casa az looked like then have a look over there. I kind of think the other theme suits the food blog better too.

To be honest, I think I prefer the old theme, but it may just be familiarity. The lettering looks kind of “thin” on this one.

I tend to agree.

I like it…bright, pleasant, good feel.

I like it. I like the colours more and I like the banner, too!

I have to agree that I liked the old theme better.

I also like the margins better on this one. The narrow column in the middle for posts was just too…narrow. Those templates really annoy me sometimes too because sometimes they don’t fit onto my screen properly.
The text here in the comments box is a bit too small for even me, though. Can that be changed?

Try it again. Have made it the same size as the body text. Better?

Yes – WAY better!

This one is much brighter, and I really like the banner. But, overall, I like the old theme better. I understand the need for change and I am sure I’ll get used to it.

The one thing I hate about WordPress is not being able to “fiddle” with it the way I used to be able to do on my other blog. I was able to adjust the page to my own preferences and I just can’t with WP.

One thing I don’t like about this theme is how my comments show up with this icky dark grey colour, and I haven’t yet figured out how to change that (I’ve got the css upgrade thingy for casa az), and I also can’t find how change the font on the page links below the header. Oh, and the ALL CAPS titles in the sidebar. But otherwise I’m happy with the change, at least for now.
My original WP theme was the same one that Zeus is Watching uses, and I had lovely Gaudí tiles as the header image. But then I found out that on IE my sidebar didn’t show up until half-way down the page (!!!), so I looked for another theme that looked right in all browsers. Then after setting up the one that’s now on the kitchen blog I discovered that on IE the right hand sidebar often ended up UNDER the left hand one. Grrrr. But by then I had come to really like that theme, so I stuck a widget on it saying “this blog looks best in Firefox” and left it at that. One other thing about that theme is that it has a flexible width centre column, so that it basically stretches out to fill any size screen. I actually never liked this because, to my eye, on a 17 inch screen, it made the centre bit look too wide and bare somehow. So when I got the css thingy I changed it to a fixed width.
I think this theme has a nice fixed width. On a 15.4 inch widescreen I get about 4cms of green background on either side, which I really like, though on Nog’s 15 inch square screen you barely see the green. Other things I like about this theme are the bullet thingys (little stars!) and the blockquote. So if any css-savvy geek out there would like to help me make the tweaks I mentioned earlier I would be most grateful.
Thanks for the feedback. I know you can’t please everyone, but for those of you who miss the old theme you can still visit it on the kitchen blog. 🙂
Oh, and the “thin lettering” here is the same font I was using on the other theme.

Hmmm… just noticed that on SexyBeast (17 inch widescreen) the green background is quite different than it is on Shadow. More of a lime green. On Shadow it’s a kind of sage green. But they are both nice.
Another difference is that the dark grey comment thingy I complained about earlier is more of a greeny-taupe on SB, with a dark-grey dash outline. Weird. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of the dark grey and just having the outline. And do something with the page link bar on top, which is BLACK and in the wrong font.
Help?

I agree about the page link bar, and I think it’s the ALLCAPS and the grey horizontal lines that make the text look “thin”, rather than the actual font. If you can tweak those I think I could get to like it.

Yay! Finally tracked down the CSS stylesheet for this theme (it’s not where it should be in my dashboard) and I was able to make the tweaks I’d mentioned earlier, plus a few more.
Things I have changed today:
– got rid of the ALL CAPS on the widget titles.
– got rid of the ALL CAPS on the post date & comment links (now Capitalized)
– changed the black bar under the header to the same green on the border
– changed the font and size on the Page Menu
– changed the “casa az” font in the header from bold to normal
– changed the font size of the links in the sidebar (smaller now)
So, what do the nay-sayers say now? Any better for you?
I love it! 🙂

I like this very much. I didn’t see it before you found and fixed the CSS, perhaps that’s just as well! This is nice, bright, clean, inviting.

Thanks, Beth! Here’s an example of a “draft” I did for the kitchen blog on my drawing board blog …
azahar’s kitchen draft
I’d changed some of the colours – an option that comes with the Vigilance theme – but I can only change the CSS on casa az.
Yeah, it feels a lot more like my “casa” now. 🙂

love the limey green. It’s weird how different colors are on different monitors, isn’t it? I run into that at work all the time.
