Amber will eat practically anything (especially yogurt or cream cheese). Benjamin doesn’t eat “people food” with the exception of the dregs of my cereal. He LOVES that.
However, we have been getting sushi a lot recently and both of them want their share. Unfortunately, they can’t make up their minds which fish they will turn their noses up at. One week it will be salmon and the next tuna. Sometimes Amber will eat what Benjamin won’t and sometimes vice versa. Other times neither of them will eat the nibbles of the first two fish.
That means less for us and waste. But it seems unfair of us to chow down on delectable raw fish and tell them “Well, you have you kibble…” Hardly fair.
The only “people food” Azar likes is asparagus. And he totally LOVES it.
The weird thing about Azar not feeding himself… he seems pernickity about some things and yet he is obviously hungry. Which is why he lets me “force-feed” him. But he doesn’t want to eat his old bikkys (the mix he and Sunny had been eating for years), though he will suddenly chow down on Loki’s kitten food. Maybe I should try him on some new food that has no “memories” attached to it?
At least he has some of his old spark back, and I can tell he is quite liking having Loki around.
What’s funny is how in just over a week it feels like Loki has always been here, like he really belongs. Even Azar has got used to all the sneak attacks, and they both love sleeping on my head, as well as with each other.
Now if I could only get that little black cat of mine to eat on his own!
yes, I think if Az wants to eat kitten food, let him. Its probably packed with nourishment and softer and more digestible. And obviously goes well with asparagus 😉
Kitten food is maybe what Azar needs now. Small easily chewed bits, stuffed with nourishment and calories.
But beware… Ishta put on a kg and a half when Li’lkitty was a kitten since they both preferred the kitten food. Fortunately Ishta lost weight when Li’lkitty started to eat the same food as she did.
We have a toast eating cat and a couple of cheese eating ones. They were chewing on house plants so I replaced the house plants with cacti. Asparagus though is a new one to me.
Apricat would walk right up to any unsuspected person eating whole wheat bread and snatch it right out of their hands.
Currently, Mr. Ferguson sticks his head in the dish whenever I eat plain yogurt, to the point I have to shut him on the sun porch or I don’t get to eat it in peace.
I have never met a cat that didn’t like asparagus! Its very alkalising and also v. Good for us. Senor also lives for seaweed. When I eat a piece of Nori(wraps sushi rolls) he gets very excited and snatches it out of my hand. So, he gets rehydrated seaweed in his food daily.Google its… Very nutritious for cats and dogs. Also every cat I have ever had loves canteloupe, so they get the rinds to lick. Trust animals to know what they need!
Hi Fran, and welcome. I remember that Azar also used to have a thing for plums. Interesting that you know other cats that like asparagus. I can imagine mine would love seaweed too.
Hello Azahar, ihave a 5 year old male cat,Dakota he has been diagnosed with anal cancer,we can’t afford the 5,000.00 dollar operation and they say its so close to the spinal column he might be paralyed if theytryto operate, she said bring him home and love him to pieces until he stops eating or is in severe pain, hes doing ok but i heard that asparagus can help,i wonder if you think i should try this ,how much to feed him and how often, thank youfor any help…i have the loving him to peices down pat,hes our baby boy,and i’ll try anything to help him, until we can’t anymore, thanks you so much for this site…..Dar
Hi Darlene, and welcome. Very sorry to hear about Dakota. I can only recommend what my vet told me about Azar, which is to not worry about any special diet that will make them live longer. The important thing is that they are eating, so whatever they like, go for it.
Are they eating that on the couch!?

Well, it’s always been my opinion that people who overly value their soft furnishings should probably not have cats. 😉

Cats would take issue with that. Soft furniture and tassels are great fun and shred nicely.

Keep trying him on the kitten food — if it’s Loki’s, he’ll want it.

I had no idea that cats liked asparagus! Much as I love our cats, I’m not sure if I will share it or not. 😉
