Heh, of course this would be developed by a Canadian company! And although I can think of a few people who would benefit from this sort of “emotional spell check” tool, I reckon most people do well enough by re-reading their emails (or blog comments) before sending them and, if they are feeling a bit emotional, simply waiting until the next day before deciding whether or not to hit the send button.
When was the last time you interpreted an e-mail the wrong way? Or wondered what got a customer, friend, or colleague so upset – only to discover it was your perceived tone?
Words are loaded emotional weapons.
ToneCheck™ ensures your tone is clearly communicated and understood before you hit the SEND button. It evaluates words and phrases for the intensity of 8 primary emotions, allowing you to make corrections and adjust the overall tone before you send the wrong message.

Great idea… Now, if only they would have it automatically built in at the recipient’s end. The number of times I have sent an email which just says along the lines of “Hi, How are you?” and someone has “misread” (God knows how) it and thought that I was “insinuating” something…
The fact is that there are people who somehow “read into” even the most basic letter or conversation something that just isn’t there.
I have a friend who, when we have been chatting with friends will ask me afterwards “What did they mean by “such and such”…. and have read into some perfectly normal and innocent question that my friend is the lowest form of life. I then have to spend 45 minutes trying to convince them that they meant nothing of the sort.

Well, this post was meant to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, especially because of what you say – it really doesn’t matter how careful one is, if someone wants to “misread” what you write then they will. But it’s at least one way of telling what they really think of you…

Must look at this – after I have eaten a midnight snack. Nearly 1am and I’m not even tired! Just as well I can get up late tomorrow 🙂
Just checked to see how offensive that message was – and it isn’t set-up for Thunderbird 😦
Now I will have to eat more to overcome the rejection [sob]
