A couple of weeks ago on my rooftop az post I included this photo and at least one person commented on how comfy my lovely red sandals looked. And yeah well, they used to be, but they are actually pretty old now and the insoles are kind of falling to bits. I’ve put off buying my usual new annual pair of Mephistos for two years now since I hadn’t been out and about much these past two summers due to being on chemo. But suddenly my two last pair started falling apart at once. And now I can’t find any Mephistos I like anywhere!
I do have, and have always had, seriously hard-to-fit feet. Probably something to do with them being a normal length but triple EEE in width with a very high instep. Try fitting those babies into a standard B width shoe. Hence, I usually find sandals easier to wear because there are more “open spaces” … and once I discovered Mephistos I never looked back. Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but they stand constant wearing 8 months out of the year and last a good 2-3 years.
I’d hoped to find something here in Málaga, especially as I’d been given a “mad money” gift awhile back that I said was going to be earmarked for new sandals. But so far no luck. Not really sure what to do now – I mean, take a look at these two guys close up if you dare (the black ones are actually a year older than the red ones). The shredded bits of insole end up shredding my own. Since I know I’ll be wearing sandals until at least the end of October, getting a new pair in August isn’t exactly frivolous. But where the hell can I find at least one decent pair of sandals to see me through? Without having to resort to total hideousness…
Meanwhile, here’s a pic of my last night in Sevilla before I left for Málaga – at my favourite Sevilla rooftop bar with Nog. I mean, just look at those happy feet!

My feet are ALWAYS happiest when barefoot. Always.

Ah,Mephisto… you have great taste in shoes. Love the picture of the 2 of you in a bar… wishing I could be there.

That’s my favourite rooftop bar in Sevilla – great lounging sofas! Why not come for a visit?
I haven’t worn any sandals but Mephistos in over ten years. But this year most of the styles here were weird with strange platform soles or other ugly features. Not sure what to do now as the red ones are almost unwearable…

Hmm. I admit to buying most of my shoes (and clothes) online. Distance selling regs in the UK make it easy enough and I hate trying things on..
Mephistos are available from tons of English online stores – how is the Spanish side?

I never even thought of that! I know that most Mephistos size 39 will fit me just fine. Hmmm…

Well, I found this place, although I have not bought anything from there myself..

They offer free delivery in the UK and I’m sure one of your friends would be happy to receive and then redirect for you…alternatively, they ship to Spain.
However, I suspect that you will find them expensive compared to Spanish prices so maybe a Spanish website would be better.

I am bare foot lady too. Nothing beats bare feet.
Good luck with the sandal shopping!

I even go barefoot or sock footed at work. Luckily it is casual so that’s okay.

And of course these are the happiest bare feet of all – at the beach!

I hear you on the hard to fit thing… My feet are a 1/2 to a size different, depending on the shoe. And while one foot is wide and flat (due to having been stepped on by a work horse when I was a kid), the other is long, thin, and curved. I wear sandals in the summer, usually with straps over the front of the foot which makes my chiropractor crazy. But when it takes you weeks to find a pair that fits, otherwise, you stick with what you can find. AND, generally, the shoes are made too short at the back of the heel and they rub on the bones that stick out at the back of the heel.
Winer it another problem… I generally wear boots when I’m not in my sock feet (indoors, of course) because finding shoes is nearly impossible, especially since most stores now don’t sell 1/2 sizes. And finding boots!!! Don’t get me started.
Because of the difference in foot size, one heel is always looser in the boot than the other which causes wear and tear in the heel area. I try and find a boot that has a leather heel interior to prevent the lining from tearing. I recently found that boots that sip up just over the ankle area seem to work for me.

Yikes, you make my hard-to-fit feet sound so … ordinary! 😉

I also love going barefoot. I have never tried Mephisto’s. The name reminds me of my kidnapped cat…

More happy feet at the beach … looks a bit like an impressionist painting on the right, doesn’t it?

The bar pictures look as if they have set up a rooftop bedroom for their customers. Is this a “Spain” thing?

I have more photos of that rooftop bar, which I’m planning to post in an article about rooftop bars in Sevilla … shortly I hope! It seems to be a recent trend and I’d be surprised if they weren’t doing it all over the place. This bar has about 3-4 different levels and you can choose from standard tables and chairs, upholstered chairs with low tables (where I illicitly have my feet up in the top pic) and these sofa bed things. They really are fabulous, especially for someone like me who cannot sit without feet elevated for very long.

It’s a shame it’s not possible to live without shoes, isn’t it? I, too, go barefoot whenever I can … around the house & in the car ( when I’m not driving ) especially … & I prefer sandals to other forms of footwear, but the British weather forces me to have a range of options available, even in the summer!! I do hope you will be successful in tracking down a suitable new pair of Mephisto’s … the internet sounds promising. One good pair of shoes or sandals that are comfortable & look good are worth their weight in gold. Cheap shoes are usually, in my experience, a waste of money!

I do feel lucky that I can wear sandals for about 8 months out of the year. I even once wore black socks with black sandals when I was here in Malaga last December with Nog and Jessica (but don’t tell anyone!).
As a kid I went barefoot all summer and then couldn’t fit into my shoes again when it was time to go back to school.
Totally agree with you about cheap footwear. The first time I put on a pair of Mephisto sandals it was like walking on sunshine.
Hey, aren’t you and Paul due for another visit to Sevilla? You could be my Mephisto mules!

We have often thought about another visit to Sevilla … I fully understand why you love it so much … but more importantly to see you & Peter again. We have a busy autumn ahead & things are tricky with Paul’s Dad being so dependent on us & his dementia progressing apace, but we will see whether it’s possible to squeeze in a few days sometime … but it’s unlikely to be in time to be your Mephisto mules!! I won’t be in touch again for a week or so as we’re off on holiday in the morning … without our laptops!
