They really couldn’t be more different at this point in time, though used to be that Azar could have seriously out-kittened this crazy super-turbo-charged young cat that I call Loki. Yeah, at almost nine months Loki is pretty much full-grown (I hope!) but he still behaves like a total kitten. I sometimes wish I had a nice big garden for him to tear around in because there are certain times of day, especially in the morning, when Loki is full of beans and seems to have more energy than he knows what to do with. So instead of him pouncing on poor old Azar I make sure I have a few toys out to keep him active and occupied. But man, it’s a lot of work! π
Meanwhile Azar, who was totally kittenish up until his “mystery illness” last January, after which he became suddenly OLD, has been having a bit of a comeback. Lately he’s started being his old chatty and demanding and cuddly self again, which fills my heart so much I can’t tell you. I still haven’t got my head around the fact that to all intents and purposes my beautiful Azar is now pretty much blind from cataracts. He sometimes does that Stevie Wonder thing with his head when I walk into the room calling his name … and then I have to talk in an especially happy voice to him to keep from crying.
I have to say that Nog is especially good with the cats, and he is the only other human that Azar has ever allowed to touch him. Heck, he even lets Nog pick him up! And Loki, unlike Azar (and Sunny), doesn’t see himself as *my* cat and loves us both equally, which I think is very nice for Nog.
Anyhow, I haven’t done a cat post for awhile so thought I’d update you all on the boys. They still have to be separated when the humans aren’t home because Loki simply plays too rough. Been actually thinking that perhaps it’s time to get Loki his own kitten to play with…

I “like” this! π
No, I will leave a comment:
Thanks for the update, Az! Loki is such a beauty, but I am sorry to hear about Az’s cataracts…

Loki certainly has beautiful markings. I also love his flat wide lion’s nose. Cute.
Azar still gets around okay, but it still makes me a bit sad.

I love seeing Loki OR Azar at the top of any post, to say nothing of the two of them together.

Another kitten might be a good distraction — or it could be Loki x 2! Just housesat one *young* kitten with 2 two yo cats. By the second day I renamed Toby “TobZilla”, although his slaves want to call him “The Tobinator”!

Well, at least he still loves his snibbles, and that’s what counts.

Total non-sequitur at this point, but how do you keep your couch so *white*? EVERYTHING in my place has black fluff all over it, no matter how much brushing I do (cats and couch!).

It’s just a thick cotton bedspread that gets thrown over the sofabed during the day. And so everything, including the covers for the “sugar cube” armrests, goes in the wash about every three weeks or so.
Loki barely sheds, or else he’s so colour-coordinated with the apartment that I hardly notice. And in spite of daily brushings, Azar still leaves quite a lot of black fur around, but as most of my clothes are black, this isn’t a problem.

I have to say that it’s a shame having to shut Loki in the livingroom when both of us are out – you should see the Sad Lookβ’ I get as I’m closing the livingroom door. Not unlike the one Puss in Boots pulls in Shrek…
And it’s extra sad because I know he doesn’t understand. But it’s also comforting coming home again and finding Azar all relaxed and happy, either on my bed or out on the balcony. Azar totally understands – and appreciates – that he isn’t ever left alone with the Lokinator.

Loki reminds me of a ginger kitten that a friend has.
