A while ago I talked about longing for some Diana Porter Jewellery and it did cross my mind that I might drop into her shop in Bristol while I was there, but what I hadn’t imagined was that it would be a fast very last minute in-and-out visit and that I would actually end up buying something! (I blame Lizzie) What happened was that we were hanging out in Lizzie’s charming Folk House Café when she suggested I might want to take a walk along Park Street before we went to the train station. It turned out that Diana Porter’s shop was right across the street and so…
I found myself looking at the on and on ring collection that I had previously seen on line and fell in love with this one, which would have looked perfect on my middle finger next to my mobius strip silver ring, but they didn’t have one in my size. So then I tried on one of these simple bands and ended up buying one to fit my pinky, though mine is silver etching on silver (and no diamond), and I even got to use Lizzie’s 10% merchant discount (yay!). All of this took place in less than five minutes as we were rapidly running out of time, and when we got out in the street I glanced at my pretty new ring and said “this doesn’t look like it says on and on” so I quickly popped back into the shop to ask them and was assured that “on and on” was engraved on the ring. Fine.
Quick trip to the train station, hugs and goodbyes, and I got settled into my seat (Lizzie had very thoughtfully booked me a table seat so I could plug in my laptop) and while I was enjoying the packed lunch she’d had made up for me at the café I looked at my ring again and damned if I could make out the words “on and on”. So I took it off to inspect it more carefully and saw that I had been right and that the engraving on the ring actually said “save the feeling”. Isn’t that fabulous? What better souvenir and reminder of an amazing holiday full of wonderful memories.
Save the feeling, indeed. My new motto.

Saving the feeling is a great motto. Being able to delve into ones memory for those moments which brought happiness, pleasure, comfort, enlightenment or other good stuff, is wonderful – almost like getting a hug!
Isn’t it amazing how things sometimes turn out?
I have a mental file of “vignette moments” – little flashes I can look back on and smile about.
Once during a walk in a favourite place, we glimpsed a hare racing across the grass. It was so unexpected and beautiful. I found a little bronze figure of a running hare – which now sits on my bedroom window sill. Every morning, I sit in bed drinking coffee and look at the hare silhouetted against the morning sky – and I remember that day.
Our mini-meet in London has given me lots of other wee vignettes 🙂

Heh, after our conversation about “emotional earworms” and how to get rid of them you have to know I first thought of you when I figured out what the engraving on my ring actually said. Lovely mental image too, of us sitting at the bar at 32 Great Queen Street ordering thimble-sized glasses of wine and wonderful food. And talking as if we’d just seen each other the other day. Then going to Neil’s Yard and later off to get our feet nibbled upon. So my ring will always remind me of that wonderful afternoon, as well as my weekend with Lizzie. And you also have a pretty blue talisman as I recall…

Indeed I do – and jolly useful it’s been too.
And I also have another wee vignette of the pair of us in the middle of Neal’s Yard, hooting with laughter 😀

Really beautiful jewelry. I was so happy to read about your London trip. As wonderful as it is to get home again, it does the body and soul good to visit new places and see old (and new!) friends. I am glad that you were able to get back without problems from the strike.

Grrrr… that strike has really upset me. I had a tapas tour booked for this evening by a lovely guy from the Netherlands (he’d booked it ages ago) who wanted to give his wife a surprise 10th anniversary present, which would be two days in Sevilla. The first night a tapas tour with me, the second going to see U2. He told me about how fabulous his wife was, that she took such good care of their three children and himself, but he worried she never took enough time for herself. So this was going to be his special thank you. AND THEN THE FUCKING STUPID STRIKE RUINED EVERYTHING. I actually cried when I got his email yesterday morning telling me the whole trip was off. And yeah, I have an agreement about the 50% deposit for the tapas tour being non-refundable, but in this case I’ll be sending his money back.
When are you back?

Love the sound of the ‘save the feeling’ ring. I always try to bring back something small but lasting from each trip as a reminder. A ring is perfect.

Also cool that it didn’t end up saying “on and on” so I can now covet the twisty double ring…
