Yesterday Nog and I did quite a lot of cleaning up and shifting of stuff on the azotea, so that by the evening it was tidy enough to have our first dinner outdoors. It’s a bit of a slog bringing everything upstairs, but well worth it. We had some lovely tuna brochettes, served with marinated potatoes, arrugula salad and a bottle of nicely chilled rueda. Also brought up the iPod deck and listened to some Paco de Lucia while watching the “supermoon” come up. At one point Nog said “all that’s missing are the cats” and right on cue the Big Girl from next door leapt over the wall and joined us (while Loki safely watched from behind the glass door).
There’s still a lot of work to be done. I’d like to get more plants and some trellising, and of course a barbeque! But for now it’s at least usable, and now that the weather has turned warm and sunny and the scent of blossoming azahar is in the air, use it we shall. Also, Jessica is moving in next week, so I predict quite a lot of “outdoor living” to be happening here soon at casa az…

It looks so pretty – and really big too! And to think how you didn’t want to leave your old place…

I know! I can’t believe it now and am so glad I moved, especially as I heard the old landlords are putting even more mobile phone antennaes on the roof. I have sometimes wondered if this contributed to getting cancer.
Anyhoo… it’s a nice big terrace, about 20 sq.metres. And L-shaped. In these pics you can only see one side of the L. Also comes with two huge awnings, which will come in handy very soon. You’ll have to come over and see it!

Hi Az, Today I descovered your blog. It is so nice. Also we are living in the same place (Seville), well, I live in a town in the surroundings. I have been following Sevilla Tapas since some time ago on Facebook. I think it is a fantastic place as well as your blog. I will be here very often. If you like to descover new things about cooking, I can recommend you some other international blogs I have been collecting in my blog: http://soldage.blogspot.com
I wish you are ok and enjoying this great sunny weekend in Seville with 25 degrees! 🙂
Hugs!

Hi Inma, and welcome! I’ve seen your “likes” on FB – thanks for following. I’ll drop over to your blog and have a look.
Yes, am having a great time this gorgeous weekend. About to see if I can get my laptop cord to connect inside from the table on the roof and go work upstairs in the sun for awhile. Then off to the cinema, wearing my new sandals!
Isn’t the azahar wonderful right now?

Thanks Az, I love Sevilla Tapas on FB and also your blog. I will follow your recommendations about the tapas’s places to visit in Seville. Sometimes I don’t know where to go for having tapas. My boyfriend is from Denmark and when he is visiting me I use to look for some special places to show him the best of Seville 🙂
The Orange trees in Seville are lovely these days, full of perfume… Have a nice Sunday! Keep in touch 😉

The terrace looks fab – even the satellite dish blends in nicely. I’m so pleased the enforced move turned out to be a very good thing.

Once I moved some big plants over to that corner the dish didn’t seem so obviously sticky-outy. In the end it’s probably better lower down as it doesn’t obstruct the view as much and, as the technician told me, it’s more secure attached to the wall and won’t get blown around in strong winds.

What did Loki think of being kept in while another cat was ALLOWED OUT? The injustice!
On the other hand, I know you couldn’t trust him outside for a New York minute.

I’m curious to let Azar have a go at hanging out on the terrace, because I know he’d love exploring and wouldn’t be keen on leaping over any walls. Perhaps once I get the trellising up I’ll let Loki out too, but in either case a surprise visit from the Big Girl (must find out her name) would be *ahem* catastrophic.

Ah, looks like the perfect time of year – warm enough to eat out but not yet so warm that you need awnings. Sounds like a delicious dinner, too 🙂

As I said on the photo on Twitpic, that’s a spot that BEGS to have dinner events with guest chefs!

BTW, that is a lovely building facing the corner with your satellite dish.

That is a gorgeous building that is in a very sad state of disrepair. I’ll take more photos of it to show you the lower windows, which have pretty green stained glass in them but look in even worse condition than my old balcony doors. The other day I saw some people out on the balconies and then the rooftop, one of them with a clipboard, so perhaps they are arranging to have the building renovated. It would be fabulous to see it restored.

You seem to have a church a block or so away. is it “interesting”? I love visiting old churches.

It certainly is a great space … space being the operative word – I didn’t realise it was so big! And the plants really enhance it. I’m sure you’ll spend many happy & productive hours out there over the coming months!

The plants were all here when I moved in, and many of them are a mess and either need serious pruning or replacing. But at least I have some very large clay pots. And there are a few plants that are actually quite lovely, especially the aloe vera and jade plants.
This is the time to really enjoy the terraza all day long. Soon it will be far too HOT to go out there except for early morning and late evening, though I like the idea of coffee and laptop up there on summer mornings…
