On the day that half the country was officially declared to be suffering from drought, the Met Office issued a flood warning for Devon, and now it’s raining and thunder is on the way. The cat is watching the rain falling and I’m drinking a cheeky little rosé wine. One has to keep one’s spirits up.
Boy, the rest of the country is going to be annoyed that you’re hogging all the water!
I also made it to the gym and had a pretty good work out. This evening I’m going to meet Nog to do the weekend supermarket shopping, freeing up tomorrow morning.
Scotland and the north west have hogged all the water so far this spring. The rain is very welcome here now.
Tomorrow I’m off to the beach. I need a dose of sea air and glass.
The wine is from Stowells, and is described as a white Zinfandel from California, light and a little bit fruity. I prefer red wine, but it was 3 for a tenner at Asda. And until an hour ago the perfect summer drink. Now I’m forced to open a cheeky French red.
Oh, and by the way, you have a new competitor. See http://www.bannatynedigital.co.uk/ Actually I haven’t seen examples of their work but they are unlikely ever do web sites as good as yours. It’s a bit like iOS 5 trying to catch up with Android…
Wow, they’re expensive. Mind you, I have no idea what “google ready” is supposed to mean, and just focus on getting on the front page as fast as possible.
I designed a web site for a friend using WordPress, and I was treated to an afternoon at a rugby match. No tax, VAT…http://www.townsendsport.com/ and it took about an hour to design. But, I am no artist…
I don’t know what Google ready is, maybe it’s this map thing they mention?
Your new client’s blog is so sharp and refreshing. How do you do it?
An HOUR?? Mine take a couple of days to set up, with quite a bit of fine tuning going on over the first couple of weeks, because usually lots of photos are involved.
How do I do it? I choose a theme and then play around with it. Are you taking the piss?
Well, it perhaps took more than an hour, but using free WordPress is very easy compared with other very expensive software products I have used in the past, like Actinic.
I think if I included all the embellishments that you employ it would take a lot longer. But I’d probably fall asleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
It is a tricky period, thematically speaking. I look for ones that have drop-down tags, and a custom image at the top. Then my brain seizes up and I open a cheeky bottle of red.
My day was pretty uneventful. The most eventful was getting kidneys from a butcher (which I had to order last week, mark you) in order to make a Steak and Kidney Pie tomorrow. I should be marinating the kidneys now!
I slept through most of mine because I couldn’t sleep last night… I am now done my Photo Hunt entry so am off to bed. Mom’s B’day party tomorrow. Since I haven’t hosted in AGES I am hoping everything goes smoothly and Mom doesn’t have one of her “turns” in the middle of it like LAST week.
We’ll see… I nearly lost the cake at the door of the grocery store! I had all the platters piled in the cart with the cake on the top of the pile. I started (gingerly) down the slight incline to the parking area and the cart started rattling and the cake started sliding down the pile and tipped sideways into the front of the cart! Luckily it was well adhered to the cake support and no injury to icing was suffered.
Actually, I have been “lucky” twice with Mom’s birthday cakes. I bought a Sucher cake for her when Gabby was a baby and I was pushing her stroller while carrying the cake. The cake box slipped out of my grip, flipped three times and landed upside down on the pavement. We didn’t even want to look so we didn’t open the box until we got home. We got home. The cake was perfectly intact! Not a smudge! Luckily, Sucher cakes have a solid chocolate coating !
I thought my hard-slog Friday would end with a fabulous long walk with the dog on Cannock Chase. Except Devon didn’t hog all the rain – Staffordshire got some of it, between 5pm, when I was just 5 minutes out of the car, and 5.30pm, when I got back to the car after thinking “sod this for a lark, let’s go home”. The blip of the central locking almost coincided with the sun coming out again.
Still, this morning I awoke uncharacteristically early to bright sunshine and was on the Chase by 8am for the fabulous walk I’d hoped for yesterday so it’s not all bad.

Well sometimes it takes me an hour to decide on the right theme… perhaps therein lies the difference?

Hey, keep meaning to ask what I should pair the chardonnay with. Would like to have it soon!

The cellarman suggested fish rather than seafood, which would be too strongly maritime.

Perhaps swordfish or tuna? Light and flaky fish might not stand up to the oak (is this one oaky?)

I don’t know. I’m curious to hear your opinion though (got a bottle for myself too) 😀

I’m thinking that a meaty fish like tuna or swordfish would go well, and perhaps some risotto de ortiguillas?
On the other hand, also want to fire up the BBQ for the first time this weekend.
Chardonnay and burgers?

Actually, as long as you enjoy it, you can do whatever you like. But you can mix both — BBQ’ed swordfish 🙂
