Last Friday afternoon I took a taxi from the hospital to the Plaza Alfalfa, a square near my house, so that I could pick up the various drugs I needed at the pharmacy there. While inside the skies opened and this very unsummerlike scene left me stranded while Nog raced home to get umbrellas so I could get home as soon as possible without getting soaked through.
All that week up until Sunday the weather was lovely and fresh, with a couple of rainstorms to clean the air. But this week The Heat is back. I’m still in shock. That is just for one month! And I only used the aircon for maybe three hours a day in August. So for the rest of the summer I’m just going to sweat it out and look forward to the cooler weather to arrive. Though I could do without another rainy winter…
Unfortunately the era of cheap power is past. We all have to start looking at our electricity usage. Even to the extent of turning off appliances which have “standby” mode. Things like TV’s, videos, computers in “hibernate” and microwaves. It seems “standby mode” still draws around 10% of the power used when they are working. I’m also looking at a mostly A/C free summer π¦

Fortunately A/C isn’t something we need at home in the South East of England. Also fortunately, the fact that we had a wood burning stove fitted a couple of years ago has cut our gas bills by more than the cost of the logs!

Yikes! That is one expensive electric bill, and for such a short amount of cooling. I hope the weather brings you some cool breezes soon!
