Still not sure what to do about the Christmas tree situation here at the new casa az.
There doesn’t seem to be a safe place to set up my pretty wicker tree where the cats won’t be able to get at it and rip it to bits.
So for now I am enjoying other trees around town and one of my favourites is this one at the Vineria San Telmo.
Love the wine corks and little Tio Pepe baubles.
Might have to do what I did one year, which was to unplug and move the wicker tree into my closet every night. It was a bit of a pain, but I don’t see any other option, especially with Luna the turbo-kitten around.
What does your tree look like this year?
Here’s ours: http://www.compu-diva.com/images/charliebrown.jpg
It’s small and rather Charlie Brown-esque. More strings of lights than branches. Had to get one small enough that we could put up out of the dogs’ reach. They had a peeing contest on ours last year. Or near it, at any rate. Gross. They got to spend a lot of time outside last Christma.
But so far, with the tree up on the little table, there hasn’t been much interest. And the old lady cats don’t seem to care about it all. So maybe this will be okay! Except, you know, it’s so pathetic looking. Sigh.

Awwww… do the needles all tinkle down every time you look at it?
I think it’s lovely. Bet it smells good too.

Yes on the needles. Also, turns out both big dog tails can still reach the branches to knock the ornaments down. Tinkle tinkle. Frankly, that’s better than the other tinkle, if you get my drift.

I cannot remember the last time I lived in a house with a Christmas tree. I think it was some time in the 70s. I am pretty sure that after my father blew town and left no forwarding address, I said “Why are we bothering with this?” (In high school, I used to tuck myself in the corner behind the family tree, strung with those clunky, heavy light cords that you got in the 50s and 60s, and read by the light — I remember getting through “The Once and Future King,” “The Worm Ouroboros,” a book of Norse legends compiled by Padraic Colum, and a dire anthology of eerie stories with Edward Gorey plates, called “Monster Festival.”)
I did put up my lavatory lights again this year
They have been remarkably popular.

The lav lights are very festive!

I am at my sister’s (and José’s) house. They have an artificial tree. Their kitty Anabelle manages to knock a few ornaments to the ground every night. She is completely white and would make the perfect foil to Chloé if we ever managed to get them on the same continent.

I want Tio Pepe in my Christmas tree! Working hard today, tomorrow I’ll take down my tree: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anniehoney/4192629918/ and put it in my living room.

I have an artificial tree (waggy dog tail and pine needles, I don’t think so!) with about 300 white lights built in. I put loads of decorations on it, a mix of shiny red & gold ones and rustic looking wooden & string. I have several largeish boxes underneath as mock presents so it doesn’t look bare after Christmas morning. You’ll have to imagine what that looks like though because 1) I wouldn’t know where to start uploading a picture; and 2) I haven’t actually put it up this year yet. It’ll definitely be up by Sunday night though.

Just email me the photo when you get it put up – I’ll upload it for you. It sounds beautiful. Love white fairy lights.

Tree?
Nope, I’ve been enjoying the trees in the subway station 🙂
Hopefully Bangkok will have a few decorations up for the occasion!
That is a pretty tree!

Yeah, guess not too much western-style Christmas stuff going on over there. Hey, aren’t you coming to Spain soon?

This is my only Christmas tree at the moment. A little cut-out Victorian tree on my livingroom table next to the iPod deck
(and the gaudí dragon).

Little Jack Shadbolt has knocked our tree over several times. I now have a system in place that could hold up an office tower.

Our Christmas tree is bare, and propped up on the front porch. We at least have one! Hopefully we’ll get it up and decorated by the end of the weekend.
