After what was probably one of the best Christmases ever, by the time my birthday was over and done with I’d had quite enough of holidays and celebrating… I’d also put on 1.5 kilos of the 5 I lost in September! So it was back to the gym big time. I decided that what I needed was to jump start my metabolism and for the past almost two weeks have been going to the gym every day (except Sundays). Not really sure if it works that way, but an hour of sweating it out on The Bike and light weight-machine workout has to be doing some good. And Sledpress has told me that after getting my heart rate up like that my body burns more calories for several hours afterwards.
In fact, I feel like I’m getting hooked. Originally I was just going to do this for two weeks and then go back to my usual 2-3 times a week routine. And I may have to do that soon if/when work picks up. But instead of plucking up some enthusiasm to get me out the door I find myself planning my mornings so that I can squeeze in my hour at the gym.
Which was an hour and a half ago. Now must dash out to meet a new client. Go me!
I always feel better when I have a regular exercise routine and the endorphins certainly get addicting. Good for you!

I’m reminded of when I used to go for a morning run no matter what – I got seriously hooked on that. Then my lower back gave out. Then I got FAT. But this does feel good.

I too have heard that your body carries on burning additional calories for some time after vigorous exercise. Well done!

Well, not sure I’d use the term “vigorous” but I do sweat a bunch.

Now that you’ve been seasoning yourself in for a couple weeks, you can get more out of less time by setting an interval workout. Cardio machines are usually designed for this option, and if you push yourself as hard as you can for about a minute at a time, then roll back the intensity enough to get your breath back, then do it again, repeat several times… that is the biggest shove that you can give to your metabolism. It’s why I like to speedwalk steep hills.
Wait till we get you doing Hindu squats…

But I might drop my iPhone! 😉
I do level 3 “hills” on The Bike and like the idea of getting more out of less time, so maybe I’ll go up to level 4 tomorrow.
I also might break up the week with a Wednesday morning stretch class before my workout, but mostly want to keep it at an hour so that it’s “do-able”. Hindu squats? Not sure I like the sound of those…
