Sweltering in 40degree C heats, sitting between 2 fans, drinking white wine, watching ‘Top Chef’, and playing computer games. Staying in my cave this year, as my partner is working (he is a train driver, doing tonights late runs),. I will be surprised if I stay awake to midnight. :}
Long time no see! So you’ll be keeping warm too then. Sounds a bit like my evening yesterday, except I was watching Iron Chef. Might do the same tonight and try to stay up to watch the fireworks from my rooftop.
It’s not cold here in the UK Midlands but it is raining – again. That’s every day of my Christmas holiday, I think January blues are starting to set in already.
I’ll be seeing in the new year at my mum’s later, just family. I’m not much of a party animal. I’ll head home at 12.15, no doubt.
I thought Loki & Luna were sitting on the end of a bed at first and laughed out loud when I realised it was a heater. I love how they’re both obviously looking at the same thing but in very different ways – Loki looks like he’s assessing it and Luna looks slightly startled. So cute, the pair of them.
Well, it went up to 15ΒΊ today so I guess that’s not really cold. And it was nice and sunny so I can’t complain.
Yes, Loki & Luna were both trying to fit on top of the radiator this morning and I thought it was so cute and also summed up our day. Staying warm and cosy at home. They were actually looking at Peter as I asked him to call their attention so they’d both stop milling around and look in one direction. I think Loki is thinking “where’s my biscuits?”. Luna always looks startled. π
I’ve had some bread dough fermenting overnight…making bread and soup for dinner. We’ll be staying home, maybe watching a movie. We have developed the tradition of doing as little as possible on New Years.
Yep. Stay tuned. It’s done with agar, balsamic vinegar, chilled olive oil, and a pipette. “Molecular cuisine.” It honestly did look exactly like caviar and worked for the same applications.
Got home about an hour ago after some last minute shopping. Decided I’d like to have a BBQ on the roof tomorrow (and break in my corkcicle) so after lunch Peter and I went out shopping for charcoal and MEAT. Now back home in PJs and feeling all cosy.
Walked through the Plaza Alfalfa on the way home. Usually at 6pm the place is packed and all the bars and shops are open. Here you can see it all shut down and just a few people on their way home like we were. I kind of like that.
We’re going to visit the train museum in the old town and then have a nice cozy night in, with a fire in the fireplace (if it works, haven’t tried it yet) and something warm to drink. It’s not really that cold here today but it still feels like winter.
A sad start to the day as we discovered that our next door neighbour, Angela, aged 49 had passed away during the night. The family have asked Paul to take the funeral. We popped into town this morning (in the rain) then Paul had to go to Bristol for a meeting. He’s back home again now & we’ve just been watching the 50 greatest moments from the 2012 Olympics … most of them British, of course!
We wish you & Peter a very Happy New Year. xxx
Happy New Year Shawn! I hope you kept cosy all night. It’s a brand new year, yahoo! Happy January 1st for you! I’m off to a house party in a -29 degree freeze. Crazy cold but I’ve got new winter Keens so I’m ready. They’ll be lots of live music as usual, good cheer and good friends. I played my saxophone tonight for the first time this month. Looks like it’s still a keeper. Yahoo! Keep happy and may the New Year bring you wonderful new experiences and continued good health!
Yikes! I can still feel what -29ΒΊ is like. I think my last winter in Winnipeg it didn’t go above -30ΒΊ for a whole month. +30ΒΊ is much kinder. Hope it was a great party!
A bit late on this one, but New Years Eve consisted of, getting home from Salzburg, watching The Sound of Music, then a documentary about the real Von Trapp story, which kept us awake til midnight – then a collapse into bed.
Christopher Plummer, who starred in it, called it “The Sound of Mucus.” (Hey — it’s a gig.) I have to say my juvenile memories agree with him, but tastes differ.

What is fake caviar? Will there be photo evidence?

Did the fireplace work?

Somehow we never got around to lighting it. π So it’s still a mystery.
