Years and years ago (about 1993?) when I first visited Madrid I remember being charmed by the neon lights in Puerta del Sol and especially the Tío Pepe sign (long before I knew I would become a fan of this particular wine). Anyhow, when Apple took over the building where this iconic sign had stood for something like forty years, and did extensive renovations, Bodegas Gonzalez Byass had to look for a new home for its beloved Tío Pepe. Which ended up being just across the square and, after a three-year absence, was reinstalled this spring. It was one of the first “sights” I looked for when I got into town.
So much going on that I will only be sending postcards from Madrid this week…
