This makes me so sad. For as long as I’ve lived here (and probably much longer) there has been a stork nest on top of that chimney. And then suddenly there wasn’t. I have no idea why they would rip out a decades-old nest, especially as the building – the Atarazanas – isn’t actually in use. Does anybody know why this happened? It was always such a joy to see the majestic stork couple up there.Β π¦
sad making

That IS sad.
We have Ospreys that nest along the Rideau River and one nest we have been visiting for 10 years. It is ten feet from the river, in a choice spot by Nicholson’s Locks. For some reason, the platform was moved and when we went to see it, we found it was empty for the first time in all those years. Not a stick on the platform. And tgere had been an old nest on the same spot that was teetering so badly, I thought it would fall over. They put in a pole and platforn right next to the old one and the birds moved right in. Why they then moved it again us baffling.
Meanwhile, there was another nest atop a barn a good distance from the river that they removed and added a platform above the original and the Ospreys were right back the next season. Why the first was abandoned is hard to say. But it’s sad.
