What a delightful well-written and superbly-acted series. Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi (there is a definite Waititi vibe happening) it is now in its second season with, hopefully, more to come. I just happened upon it last week when a Twitter pal mentioned that EVERYONE should watch this, and so I did. Well, the first season. Taking a short break in between just to extend the experience. What are you guys watching this summer?

Fangeeks that we are, we’re watching the first of two Torchwood mini-series that came out on HBO after the BBC series was done — “Children of Earth.” Torchwood is the “Doctor Who for adults” that spun off the rebooted Who series, the same broad premise of coping with assorted alien threats to Earth, but grittier (and loads more sex). Upside: you get to see things like John Barrowman, who plays an immortal pansexual time-traveling hottie from the 51st century, emerging naked from a concrete block that’s just been dropped into a quarry. Downside: favorite characters get killed. Given the state of the world it’s not as escapist as I would like, but it’s only three more episodes.
