Please feel free to tag yourselves . . .

Four childhood books

  • None, I’m afraid (due to not having had a childhood)

Four authors I will read again and again

  • Robertson Davies
  • Terry Pratchett
  • Margaret Atwood
  • Lindsey Davis (frequently as opposed to repeatedly)

Four authors I will never read again

  • Dan Brown
  • Catherine Cookson
  • Nicholas Evans
  • Milan Kundera

The first four books on my to-be-read list

  • Ulysses by James Joyce (a permanent fixture)
  • The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula Le Guin
  • La Sombra del Viento by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (started but not finished)
  • The Ancestor’s Tale by Richard Dawkins

The four books I would take to a desert island

  • The Deptford Trilogy by Robertson Davies
  • Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien
  • The Power of Myth interviews by Bill Moyers with Joseph Campbell
  • A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

The last lines of one of my favourite books

  • And that, headmaster, is all I have to tell you.

  3. Bicentennial Man (1999)
  4. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
  5. The Scarlet Letter (1995)
  6. All The King’s Men (2006)
  7. The Human Stain (2003)
  8. The Hours (2002)
  9. Stardust (2007)
  10. Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
  11. Portnoy’s Complaint (1972)
  12. Tropic Of Cancer (1970)
  13. Bee Season (2005)
  14. Stuart Little (1999)
  15. Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (1993)

And here is another possibly scary list … this one of Books Into Movies that have release dates in November and December.

This is very cool – check out Blurb Book Publishing

Blurb is a publishing company that allows you to publish your own books using their free BookSmart software. You can then print your book to sell, or just for yourself, and you only pay when you actually print the book.

I first saw this over on Ashish’s blog and he had this to say after trying out the software…

Blurb is essentially a book publisher, a marketplace, a community of author’s like you and a company providing tools for said author’s to create books all rolled into one. The highlight of Blurb is of course the free BookSmart software, which is available for free download. You just need to register, which is also free. The software is easy to learn and use, but make sure you do have the resources [which many modern computer’s will fulfill in a jiffy] needed to run the application. I might say that I barely meet the minimum requirements when it comes to memory but I had no problem. As for the creation process, a very helpful wizard will get you making your book before long.

Maybe I’ll dust off that old unfinished novel of mine (once again) and give this a go . . .

. . . or at least shorter.

Squashed Philosophers

THE books which defined the way The West thinks now…
In their own words… but condensed and abridged into something
like readable

I love it. All the philosophy and none of the verbiage. 🙂

They also do squashed divines and squashed writers. I was hoping to finally read Ulysses but the books stop at 1915.

Found over at Lori’s booknook book_icon.gif

And many thanks to alejna for coining the term me-me, because I cringe everytime I read that trendy blogosphere bastardization of the word meme. But me-me is not only clever, it actually says what these thangs are all about, which is “all about me”.

Instructions…

Bold what you have read, italicize your DNFs, strikethrough the ones you hated, put *asterisks next to those you’ve read more than once, and put a + cross in front of the books that are on your bookshelf.

It’s another self-tagging me-me … but do let us know where to find your answers. f_ok.gif
