I suppose it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that at the ripe old age of 15 1/2 Azar is no longer a kitten, but it’s actually something that I’ve only just accepted this past week when he came down with a bad case of the sniffles. No doubt this is another bout of herpes as Loki’s eyes have also been quite watery of late (though that is his only symptom), but the real worry is that Azar might have an upper respiratory infection. So I started him on antibiotics this week and he should be feeling better soon. He has already stopped sneezing so much, which is a good sign – I hope! And so, it came to pass that earlier this week I looked into Azar’s eyes and saw an old cat looking back at me…

Just waiting to find out if there is going to be a new resident at casa az today. I mentioned here a few weeks ago that someone was looking for a home for a blind kitteh and at first I thought – no way. But after speaking with the woman who has been taking care of him we decided to at least give it a try. Pilar lives in one of the villages close to Seville. She has three cats of her own that live in her house, and aside from that there are about twenty cats that hang around her garden that she feeds and cares for, including getting them sterilised (she has a deal with her local vet). When she got home from her summer holidays last year she discovered a wee blind kitten in her garden and has been giving him special care, but she says her husband will divorce her if she tries bringing another cat into the house. The thing she is most worried about is going away for holidays in August, because apparently the blind kitteh gets pushed aside by the other cats at feeding time and she is worried he might starve to death when she isn’t there to feed him separately. So after talking things over I told her that if there is no obvious upset with having the kitteh here then I will take him for the summer and, depending on how things go, consider keeping him permanently.
Pilar was supposed to bring him over today, but she is having great difficulty getting him into the carrier. She tried once this morning and he peed all over her, tore off into the garden, and she hasn’t seen him since. So we shall see. I have already named him – Radar (thanks Sled!) – which of course is a dangerous thing to do. But I am okay with the trial basis thing since I’m not really sure about having a third cat, even though I used to have three before and that was fine. Stay tuned…
