Desperately trying to get in touch with my inner geek!

It’s gotta be in there somewhere! Anyhow, this is by way of an excuse and an apology for ignoring my own and everyone else’s blogs these past couple of days. I’ve been trying to set up my new website and especially the tapa blog. And I wouldn’t have got anywhere at all without the help of the very generous and knowledgeable Ashish, who has been very patiently helping me re-design the tapa blog.

I now have it doing almost everything I’d like it to do, though we’re still discussing the sidebar and what to do with it. But I must say that it’s been quite interesting and also gratifying. When Ashish sent me some files to download/upload in order to rewrite some stuff … I was actually able to do it! Wow! I felt so proud of myself.

You can have a look and tell me what you think of it so far. The footer still has to be totally re-worked, and Ashish says he can switch the icons on the sidebar for me. It’s really been quite an experience and I’m looking forward to learning even more.

Thanks again for all your help today, Ashish! f_smooch.gif

Welcome to azahar-sevilla.com! 🙂

For the moment I’ve just put up a wordpress blog, in order to have something up there while I figure out how to get stuff uploaded and also, um, learn to design a webpage. But I’ve actually learned quite a lot today.

The next step will be to start reading the instructions . . .

looking for webhosting

Can anyone help with a few (probably quite stupid) questions?

I presently have hosting that was set-up by the guy who designed my clothing website. What I’d like to do is register a new domain name but I also want to hold onto the URL here at azahar natural clothing.

Would this count as two domain names? Could I get the clothing website set-up as a sub-domain, or would this be a bad idea?

I’ve been looking at BlueHost, which is recommended by WordPress and which offers the following for $6.95 US a month …

  • 300 Gigabyte Hosting Space
  • web hostingHost UNLIMITED Domains
  • 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts
  • 3,000 GIGS of Transfer
  • SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats
  • CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL
  • 2000/2002/2003 Front Page Extensions
  • Free Domain Forever
  • Free Site Builder
  • 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support

My main question is about Domain Manager, Sub-domains, Add-on domains, Parked domains and Redirects. And that question is – what are they and how do they work?

Okay, I know (I think) that the free domain provided by BlueHost will be the Domain Manager. And that is the one I would want to have registered under the new name. Is there any way of doing that as well as transfer over the clothing website without having to pay for two domain names?

And while I’m making up my mind about what to do, how can I ‘save’ my new domain name?

notebook-front1.jpgnotebook-back1.jpg

Remember when I was so obsessed about wanting this HP tablet? Well, I’ve changed my mind. During a trip to Fnac to visit my erstwhile heart’s desire this evening I ended up having another look at the same size Toshiba notebook and deciding that it was a better deal for the same price. It doesn’t have the cool swivel touchpad screen that’s on the HP model, but it has the same clear anti-glare screen as SB and much more. . .

  • Ultra-portable 2-kilo notebook PC with 13.3-inch TruBrite widescreen
  • 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 processor
  • 200 GB hard drive, 2 GB installed RAM (4 GB max)
  • multi-format/dual-layer DVD drive
  • Quad-band Wi-Fi LAN (802.11a/b/g/n), 10/100 Ethernet
  • Intel GMA 950 video card with up to 256 MB of shared memory
  • Connectivity: 3 USB, 1 FireWire, 1 VGA, 1 S-Video, 1 ExpressCard 34/54. 5-in-1 memory card reader
  • Pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium (with Media Center capabilities)

Meanwhile the same two problems exist . . . that I don’t have 1200€ and I don’t have any real need for an ultra-portable groovy cool notebook. 😕
