This week’s Friday Foto Finder challenge is “well”.
For eighteen and a half years I was intrigued by this doorway in a small tunnel that joins the Patio Banderas to the old Judería. Well, wouldn’t you be? I called it the hobbit house and always wanted to know who lived there. I especially wanted to go inside and have a look around. And about a month ago I got my chance!
Peter had taken out a group on a Sevilla Tapas Tour – a family of four from Texas and a couple from the UK – and I ended up going to meet them at their final stop for the evening. Final? Ha! Turns out everyone was having such a good time that Paige and Keith invited everyone back to their holiday rental for a nightcap. The hobbit house! And what a curious place it turned out to be. There were four bedrooms haphazardly arranged over three floors, an odd sitting room off what everyone assumed was the living room, and a small terrace overlooking Judería street and the Royal Palace walls. Our guess was that it used to be some sort of guardhouse but now was prettied up with geraniums on the windows and made into a more or less functional living space.
But its most unusual feature was the open well in the living room.
A few more shots below – wish I’d taken more now!
