Ever done this?
Please bear with me. It’s all part of trying to get myself better organised and hopefully become more disciplined and focussed in the process.
What you do is draw nine boxes on a piece of paper (as shown in the pic) and then fill them in with things that are important to you right now. Here are mine as of 5pm on August 3rd, in no particular order of importance (well, except for the first one
).
- relationship
- friendships
- health related stuff
- cats
- writing
- clothing biz/work
- improving my Spanish
- meditation/focussing
- reading/learning
The point of this exercise is to make sure you do something with each of the nine boxes every day that help you progress with them. And also review the boxes once a week or so to see if something new has come up in your life that needs attending to. It seems that many people tend to daily focus on maybe two or three of their boxes (perhaps work, family, friends) and don’t make time for the other stuff. The idea of the nine boxes is to create more balance in our lives.
What would your nine boxes contain?
My boxes would contain many of the same things.
regaining health
friendships
garden
library
mother
pets
writing
law of attraction
positive movement/inner peace

Mine would include chocolate, somewhere…

Mine would be: relationship, exercise (walking and stretching), massage, playing piano & fiddle, eating good food, reading, meditation, garden, pets.
Note that this is a list. Also, I have to confess that when I wrote this down on a sheet of paper in order to figure it out before I put it down here, “massage” appeared twice in my list of nine items. Even my list making gets braided, distracted. . .

I think my boxes would contain the following (not necessarily in order of importance, except, of course, for the first, for me as well):
1. relationship
2. job (note to self: I did *not* say “career”, at this point…)
3. cat
4. friends
5. diet/health
6. keeping organized
7. band stuff
8. plants
9. rest & relaxation

Well, it’s sort of a list, hmh. The point of putting them in the boxes is to visually give them equal importance. For a lot of people work might take up 3 or 4 of their boxes, so their lives are less balanced than someone who partakes of all their boxes every day.
I can’t remember where I first heard of this – I think it’s some sort of eastern thang.

Nog and I have had our boxes stuck on the fridge for the past week or so … not sure it’s making a huge difference (if any) but we both agree it’s better than not having them there. Somehow…?
