Where would it be?
Mine would be a place just like in the opening scene of Cinema Paradiso. It shows open balcony windows with a ceramic bowl sitting on the balcony ledge and white gauzy curtains gently moving in the breeze. Just beyond the window the Mediterranean sparkles under a clear blue sky.
When I first saw that scene at the cinema in Toronto in 1990 I knew I had to move to Europe and find that place. It didn’t have to be the Mediterranean, just that window and that type of sea view. Well, so far I’ve made it to Sevilla, which is by far the most beautiful city I have ever seen. And I am very happy living here. But I still hope to one day find that place … I have a feeling it isn’t far away.
Montreal. I have not been to Montreal since I was four months old, but I’ve since stopped over at its airport, read about it and seen it on TV, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it. Plus the university where I want to go (McGill) is there, and one of my major role models lives there too. Yep, Montreal.

My dream home would be right here in Chicago, and while I wouldn’t want to be right downtown, I would like to be a bit further southeast, perhaps even closer to the lake. Hardwood floors, exposed brick exterior walls, exposed timber ceiling, working fireplace, and dishwasher, with my own washer/dryer. And hopefully I wouldn’t be responsible for lawn care and snow removal and chores like that. š

I need two dream homes. One at a remote holiday resort called “Coral Bay” on the West Australian coast. Then I also need a home here in Perth so that I can infest bookstores, visit art galleries and attend concerts and plays. First, I need a little luck on Lotto.

To be honest, I think I’d need the two dream homes as well, Archie. Perhaps a rustic seaside place in a village near Barcelona and a small ‘atico’ apartment in the city centre …

Oh yes. Two dream homes. ONe in San Francisco, downtown in a loft with hardwood floors and a gourmet kitchen within walking distance of the ball park and the symphony. The other, well I have to think on that. Must be in the country somewhere in the middle of about 400 acres so there are absolutely no yard lights anywhere around to spoil the stars. I’ll have to get back to you on the rest of it.
