Cue John Williams theme music…
Lucky for me that the morning after I’d stupidly severed the tendon of my left middle fnger I still didn’t think it was any sort of big deal, so I went out and got my hair cut before stopping in to see my doctor friend Agustín. I thought he was just going to bandage up the finger properly and tell me to go home … instead I ended up spending all the afternoon and evening in emergency, and then had an hour-long operation to re-attach the tendon.
The next day I began to realise that there were quite a lot of things I wasn’t able to do anymore, not the least of which was finding a way to deal with my hair. For the record, I have seriously stupid hair. Baby fine yet totally frizzy (to say it is curly hair would be a total lie – in its natural state it looks like a perm gone horribly wrong). What the Spanish call ‘pelo frito’ (fried hair).
I normally deal with this by pulling it up into a bun, or knot, tied up with a cute little tie-up thingy, leaving a few tendrils of wispyness to soften the look. Which requires two hands. And I no longer had two hands! In desperation I rooted around the bathroom cabinet for the alice band I’d bought a couple of years ago and thus I was saved!
The rest of my so-called hair in its new short chin-length bob turned out to be ‘controllable’ if I got all the frizzy bits tamed back with the alice band and a whack of spray gel. And Nog says he finds my ‘new look’ quite fetching. To be honest, I’m rather liking it myself.
In fact, I might keep on wearing it this way after I get my other hand back. 🙂
I was in Target yesterday and noticed the hair bands EVERYWHERE in the jewelry department, where they had them to match the necklaces, etc.
I think they’re a hot item, so you should have no problem finding them in any color…or polka dots, for that matter!

It’s true – they’re everywhere all of a sudden! But I need the kind with teeth, which limits my selection somewhat. Also, I need the kind that aren’t hideously ugly.
Definitely sticking with this ‘do’ for awhile, though I will need to get it cut more often as it loses cuteness points if it gets much longer than chin length. It’s also the perfect length for summer.

Yeah, I got a cut recently that will need to be “freshened” up more frequently than I’m used to, but it hangs well, and the shape is good, so I’m sticking with it. 🙂
At times, I use a hair band, just to keep the hair out of my eyes on windy days, a not uncommon occurence here.
