The official temperature states that it’s 37ºC (99ºF) at the moment, but you can always add another 5º for being in the centre of town late afternoon (6pm).
Last night Nog and I went out for an ’emergency beer and air-conditioning session’ at Bar Flaherty and on the way home we were remembering that it was exactly a year ago since our friend Craig ( aka zoomer ) was here and we took him on the Magical Mystery Tour. And it sure as hell wasn’t this hot! Ah well, not complaining (much).
Especially as I just got an email from zoomer this morning saying he is likely to be here for another visit in October!

I remember the one ‘summer’ I spent in Bristol. I was wearing sweaters until almost July (while the locals were out and about in shorts and t-shirts) and although it didn’t rain there all that much, the constant lead-grey skies just about did me in. I mean, I more or less expected the winters to be like that, but August?
I just can’t live happily without a lot of sunlight, which is why I only sometimes complain about the HEAT here.
I also notice that as the years pass I am less able to put up with 45º temperatures. Either that or I’m menopausing …

God, we’re having a heat wave, too. It was 45C in Trail, which is in a deep valley. Up here, slightly cooler, and it cools off at night (except inside on the second floor where I sleep!). I’ve never been a fan of the heat.

I’ve always preferred HEAT to COLD. Growing up in Winnipeg and Thompson when it was often -30-40ºC in winter made me realise that, after I grew up and had a choice in the matter, that I never ever ever wanted to feel that cold again.
And I’ve seen enough snow in my lifetime that I don’t really need to see any more of it.
The worst thing about HEAT is when it is accompanied with HUMIDITY. Sevilla gets very humid as it is in a basin not far above sea level.
But it’s nothing like when I lived in Toronto. Hell, it might only be 30º there but when you walked outside it felt like a hot heavy damp blanket suddenly fell on your shoulders. Blah. And sweating was no good because it couldn’t evaporate in the hot heavy air.
The thing about COLD is that it makes me crunch up and shiver … with HEAT I just try to wear as little as possible, keep the fans going, and there is a distinct feeling of your body having to ‘open up’ to the heat. Kind of just relax and go with it.
Cold always requires way too much clothing and shivering for my liking.

If I must choose I prefer -20C to 40C. You can dress to avoid cold but hardly to avoid heat.
We’ve had a nice week, up to 27C and sunny, while the south has been drenched. Unfortunately the clouds have arrived and it’s 17C and rainy at the moment. Usual summer weather…
I’m indoors almost freezing in an air conditioned building, which is even more cold after five o’clock when the office hours are over officially and the ventilation system switches over in some other move.
Hmm, maybe I’ll have to bring a sweater tomorrow.

-20ºC is just about doable. -40º (which is the same C and F by the way) is like hell just froze over and there is no way to dress for it.
Well, and still be able to move.
At +40º you just have to put on a very light and pretty linen dress at home, turn on a couple of electric fans, and no pasa nada.
Though going out is a bit melt-making.

39º is the official high temperature for today (and apparently for the rest of the week).
So make that about 45º in the centre of town mid-afternoon.
The late evening walks, usually with a cold beer thrown in, have turned into quite a nice summertime routine.

Official temp at the moment is 42º, so that’s about 47º inside casa az. The cats have gone totally floppy, all surfaces are hot to touch, both hot & cold taps are running HOT water and having the fans on is kind of like sitting in front of a couple of blow dryers.
Sure glad I bought that coolpad thingy for my laptop. I’ve just propped Nog’s up on a book to try and keep it from melting.
Definitely the hottest day of the year so far.
