| What Your Sleeping Position Says |
![]()
You take relationships slowly. You need lots of reassurances before you can trust. If you don’t get enough sleep, you are: cranky and a big baby It’s hard to sleep next to you because: you are a light sleeper |
All true except the being cranky bit. I never get enough sleep yet I’m actually one of those really annoying ‘happy morning’ people. Well, as soon as I’ve had my first cup of coffee – before that I’m just kinda groggy and zombie-ish.
I found this quiz on Miss Cellania (a fellow insomniac) along with this pic of the most popular sleeping positions.

I usually go to sleep in the foetal position, though I really prefer sleeping on my back and often wake up like that (star-fish style), but when that happens my lower back totally seizes up.
[update: I found the following info relating to the positions shown in this pic over on Jahooni’s blog, thanks to a comment left here by upset waitress…]
Foetus
- Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.
Log
- Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.
Yearner
- People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.
Soldier
- Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don’t like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards.
Freefall
- Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don’t like criticism, or extreme situations.
Starfish
- Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don’t like to be the centre of attention.

You are calm and rational person with a good deal of balance in your life.
Friends consider you to be kind, caring, and truly loyal.
You are easy going and trusting. However, you are too sensible to fall for mind games.
Open to the world, you are not afraid to be yourself.
If you don’t get enough sleep, you are: Able to cope
It’s hard to sleep next to you because: You’re a bed hog
I guess that’s pretty true except I’m so not a bed hog. I tend to sleep near the edge, not close to the other person.

Not TMI … NEI. We still don’t know which sleeping position you favour – the one that goes with that description, nursemyra.
I once read that the starfish position was favoured by people with heart problems … (eep?)

So I’m somewhere between Nursemyra and:
You are confident and ready to tackle life.
You are pretty vain and happy with your physical appearance.
You are born to be the center of attention, and you’re unhappy on the sidelines.
You’re always up for trying something new – in and out of bed!
If you don’t get enough sleep, you: Look like hell
It’s hard to sleep next to you because: You toss and turn all night
Since I sleep in either position – neither analysis is close though

They’ve forgotten the most important sleeping position:

Ah yes, the pretzel position.
How well I remember it, especially when I had three cats and a single bed.

Cool, uw. I just visited Jahoon’s blog and saw she had some extra info relating to that picture of sleeping positions, so I’ve updated the post and added that.
I’m actually a ‘foetal starfish’, which seems to fit.
Are you a log or a yearner, nursemyra?

I mostly sleep in the starfish position, when I am not spooning mrs bb, but often wake up in the defensive footballer’s free kick position with my hands on my tackle.
