She lent me the first series a couple of weeks ago, which I devoured pretty quickly. Then I picked up series 2 when we met for lunch yesterday (and did another dvd/book swap) at Casa Roman – missed a couple of good photo ops for the tapas blog that I’m still kicking myself about
.
Also inadvertently spoiled a couple of upcoming surprises in the series by glancing through that Wiki link. But after getting through a slightly drunken post-lunch recuperation English class yesterday evening I made some Orville’s (hey – new popcorn mule coming in on Sunday!) and watched a couple of episodes. Does anyone else like this series as much as Pipocas and I do?
[Note to self: do not schedule classes after lunches with Pipocas]
Hey just dropping in, during my week’s sentence for naughty behaviour on h2g2.
I’ve never watched six feet under. But Az you really should get hold of the US series, ‘Damages’ being shown here on the BBC at present. I’m not sure, we might already be into series 2, it’s gone straight on. it’s totally f**king brilliant, starring Glen Close; I love that woman. She’s an utterly ruthless top lawyer. Anyway the whole story is unbelievable complex and addictive. Makes h2g2 complexities look like kindergarten stuff. π You’d absolutely love it.
Love Fanny/Effers

That was something I paraphrased from a long-forgotten quote by (I think) GK Chesterton, toby. Glad you enjoyed it. π
Nice to hear you are enjoying your ‘time off’, Fanny. Thanks for the recommendation – seems there are tons of good series out there I missed during my 15-year hiatus from television. At the moment I have to rely on what can be borrowed. Besides Six Feet Under I’m also watching the 4th series of The Wire that a friend sent to me.
One day I’d like to get the entire Inspector Morse and Prime Suspect series.

The original Prime Suspect started years ago with about 4 or 5 one-offs, starring Helen Mirren. All are superb. There’s something called Prime Susupect that is on regularly at present, *not* with Helen Mirren. It’s not a patch on the original brilliant originals. Try to get the original one offs with Helen Mirren if you really want to watch something truly special.
Inspector Morse is pretty tame for my taste. Though lots of people like it. Much more old fashioned, Who dunnits. Original Prime Suspects are truly raw and horrifically wonderful.
‘Damages’ is the best US thing I’ve seen in years.

Have you seen The Wire, Fanny?
Yes, I was talking about Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren. Didn’t know there was another one.
Inspector Morse is a ‘time and place’ kind of thing for me. I like all the quaint stuff and I especially love the Jags.

I really recommend the movie:” Me, myself & I”, starring Rachael Griffiths which is a “what if” story about a woman who finds herself with a husband & 2 children after some incident…like if she had really married someone from highschool instead of the independent life she was living.
She’s very similar to your new friend and a good comedy!
