… this is really getting to be a drag.
Ever since the ferry ride from hell last Monday I’ve been unwell. Went to bed on Monday night feeling tired (but not excessively so) and didn’t get up again until Wednesday morning. I had a fever on Tuesday but since then I’ve been “normal”. The main complaint is that I’ve had constant “dire rear” all week and, since yesterday, quite bad lower abdominal cramps. I’m assuming this is a reaction to the violence done to my digestive system on Monday and not a symptom of a possible tumour recurrence, but yes, I will be calling Dr A this morning to ask his advice…
Not sure about going to see him as I seriously need to be within 30 seconds of a toilet, but I know he’ll come over after his morning shift at the health centre is done if he thinks it’s necessary to see me in person. That is, if he doesn’t tell me to go straight to Emergency.
So, it’s been kind of a crappy week (ha!), being sick and stuck inside. Since Wednesday I’ve felt a bit better, but I just feel so weak and it’s hard to get anything done. Pip came over for lunch yesterday to help ease my cabin fever and also help me focus on doing a business plan for Sevilla Tapas, which really helped cheer me up. But I’m sad about missing so many yoga classes and about not even being able to go out for a walk. I was just getting used to being “healthy” again; this feels a bit like before and I really hate it.
Anyhow, it’s almost time to call Dr A (he should be at the health centre soon). Meanwhile, think I should get one of these? 😉

Sorry to hear your week has been “crappy.” You may be so dehydrated you need IV fluids, and that’s why you’re feeling weak. Hope you are better soon.

Don’t buy one. It’s just money down the drain.

Sorry to hear about this – don’t know if things like Dioralite (?) are available in Spain, but something to replace the salts etc if you are getting rid of a lot of fluid, as well as re-hydration.

I sure hope I’m not to the point of needing IV fluids, Silverstar!
Just heard from Dr A and he says I should not only be drinking lots of water (which I am) but also those re-hydrating drinks like Aquarius (similar to what you mentioned Johnny), so I’ll try to get something like that later on today. He says that’s why I’ve got cramps. And he said to stick to a bland diet (oops, so I guess that homemade pizza Pip and I had for lunch yesterday was a baaad idea…).
You should be ashamed of yourself, ian … 🙂

Do keep up your fluids. Drink plenty of water and avoid anything with milk or meat… eat lots of rice which helps keep up your fluids and is easier to digest and won’t give whatever the bacteria is causing the problem any help.
And, as I said in an earlier comment… SEE YOUR DOCTOR!
A simple doigestive irritation is not accompanied by fever and doesn’t last more than a day or so.

My supervisor came by for a meeting before I finished my thoughts…
If you have a fever and “dire rear”, you have a bug. Having just gone what you have been through over the last while, you need to ensure that you get checked out. A “bug” is the last thing you want to have and not have checked out.

Lets see, eating food in Tangiers . . . Diarrhea . . . Sounds like an african version of Montezuma’s revenge. Take care of yourself, get those electrolytes in ya, rest and get better.

Well, I had sautéed chicken & broccoli with rice noodles today, Beth. And bought some Aquarius. That stuff tastes like a home remedy I once made adding lemon juice, sugar, salt and bicarbonate of soda to water.
Nah, don’t think it’s a Montezuma’s revenge thing really, hmn. But I do know that my digestive system is already compromised from all the surgeries, so I reckon being so sick on the ferry really screwed it up.
Maybe I did pick up a bug as a result, mudhooks, but I only had a slight fever on Tuesday night. And yes, I did talk to Dr A and am following his instructions. He’s going to be in town all weekend and said if things aren’t getting any better then I should give him a call.
I really hope I can go out tomorrow. I miss the sun. 😦

Every time I hear the term “dire rear” I think about where I first heard it. It was in a book of excuse letters sent to teachers by parents…
“My son had dire rear and couldn’t go to school”.
“My son had diarrhea through a hole in his shoe.” (for some reason, Googling it comes up with “true” South Africa stories but I read it years and years ago, sometime in the 1970s…)

Oh, I hope you feel better soon. What a shame to have this come up on the tail of your fun adventure.

Feeling much better today. 🙂
