As I mentioned yesterday, Pepe my landlord has agreed to let me keep on renting rooms in the apartment next door (where I used to live) for another year. So before I can spend any more time making casa az look less like an Ikea bomb hit it, I’ll have to get next door looking spruce for the new tenants. I’ll be able to do some of the lighter cleaning but I know I’ll get tired out quickly, so Nog has offered to do most of the work if I go over and keep him company (bless his little cotton socks). We’re going to take a couple of extra electric fans over, the iPod deck and plenty of mineral water, and hope to be done by the end of the week (working mornings only when it’s coolest).
At the moment I’ve only got one new tenant for the summer, who will be arriving this afternoon. I don’t actually make any money from this set up unless there is a full house (3 people) but as Pepe isn’t making me pay rent next door for July & August it’s a fair trade off. He’ll get some income for the summer and I’ll get a new contract in September.
After having spent June tying up some loose ends and organising stuff I’m quite looking forward to now taking the rest of the summer off to really focus on my well-being. I’m glad I’ve decided not to have another chemo infusion and only take the dreaded Xeloda for the sixth round. That should make July much easier to bear.
Okay, time to finish my coffee and get to work!

Oh. My. God.
I am so tired I can hardly stand it. Started cleaning next door around 9 o’clock. It’s now 4 o’clock and between cleaning and people moving in and getting stuff organised this is the first time I’ve sat down.
Man the place was a mess. And we only got the three bedrooms and livingroom done. The kitchen and bathrooms will be done tomorrow (though I’m hoping that Anna will clean them before she leaves tomorrow). Then there will be other stuff like windows and doors.
The new tenant (July-Sept) moved in around 2.30 and I ended up with a second tenant (for July) who has just moved in now. The second one had been by to look at the place before and finally decided to take the room a couple of hours ago. So it’s been pretty hectic getting them settled and all that. I still don’t make any money on all this, but it should make Pepe happy. And I’m pretty sure I’ll have a full house starting in September, which will help.
So, half-dead from starvation here. Nog has gone across the street for a take-away emergency pizza. Hope he gets back soon …

And another day of it today, in between all the other stuff that needs doing. But I have to admit seeing things looking all clean and tidy does give one that job well done feeling. As well as that “I need a siesta” feeling.

I’m starting to wonder if I should have opted to stay in the landlady business … it’s always something!
The July-Sept tenant has swapped rooms without informing me (or paying her rent) and the July tenant is moving out after one night because … there are ghosts in the apartment.
I sure hope I have better luck in September when I am once again responsible for the rent.
Anyhoo, no cleaning today. Still totally exhausted from yesterday and haven’t been able to nap at all. It’s like I’m too tired to sleep. Feeling nauseous and crappy so not a great start to my holidays, but I managed to get to yoga class this morning (first time since the infusion) which was good for me.
Tomorrow … bathroom and kitchen cleaning!

Aaack. It’s bad enough that the previous tenants left the apartment so filthy but it also makes me wonder how they could live like that? The bathtub was actually black with dirt! As was the refridgerator. I mean … wtf?
Hoping to finish off tomorrow. Gotta wipe down doors (all 11 of them) and finish the kitchen. Fun, fun, fun …

The last tenants were there for a year, SC. I don’t think they cleaned anything ever, other than superficially. But it’s typical. I usually do a big clean up every summer and it’s always this bad.
Still a few doors left to do. I hung some new Ikea curtains in the livingroom yesterday, which was 10 euros well spent. It really cheers the room up. Though dangling off the top of the old rickety ladder whilst wielding a power drill was more than somewhat scary.
I saw that wet towel trick yesterday and will definitely try it out. Wish I had ceiling fans, though.
