Today’s Photohunter theme is “low”.
After a rather hedonistic week away in Málaga full of sun, sea and tapas I am about to embark on a new weight loss/antioxident/fitness regimen that will include a low-carb diet (taking a page out of my friend Gaelen’s book). As you can see, low-carb eating doesn’t have to be dull. This is garlicky grilled tuna with broccoli and a bit of rice & veg salad.
more low-carb options below…
grilled swordfish with asparagus, mushrooms & rice noodles
spinach, cheese & pinenut rollup
tortilla rollup with hummous, grilled courgette & redpeppers

Wow, delicious AND healthy. What a great combo! 🙂

You can also get low-carb and heart healthy recommendations and menus at Saving Dinner. Their menu mailers are cheap, and come in your email every week, and include a shopping list. Lots of other brochures, etc. also cheap. I find the low carb menus very tasty. I’ve been using them a couple of months, and have lost about 14 lbs.

Wow, that’s very inspiring, Silverstar. I’m hoping to lose about ten pounds the first month and then maybe five a month after that.

Zucchini, atchly.
Eggplants are aubergines. Or vice versa.
But yes, very yummy.

Mine’s up, too! I hope you can visit.

Yum… except the Greek salad as I despise feta cheese unless it is cooked and mixed in to something.

Mmmm. Grilled courgettes. Just made some of those today. Have you tried baba ganoush? Which is grilled eggplant ground up thoroughly with onions, garlic, tahini and lemon juice. Great on a roll up or crackers or just on its own.

Az, careful with the exercise + low carb during the first week or two of your experiement. You might bonk (hit the wall) more often or sooner than you think while your body learns to shift from burning carbs for fuel to burning fat for fuel. More info at http://www.proteinpower.com/forum especially the exercise sections (and of course, the recipes!)
Enjoy your new menu experiements (I’ve been l/c’ing since Feb, 2002.) And make sure that while cutting carbs you don’t skimp on either fats or protein, but especially protein–your body needs the protein to rebuild.

Thanks for the advice and the link, Gaelen. I don’t think I have to worry about over-doing the exercise as I put my back out while I was at the hospital getting my port flushed this afternoon. I went to use the toilet and as I was “hovering” my back went TWEAK in a very bad way and I’ve been in amazing pain ever since. Hope it is better by the weekend…
