Since his recent mystery illness, and especially since the arrival of Loki, I’ve been telling Azar … “hey, don’t you worry ’bout a thing chevrolet, you and I can conquer the world”. I don’t know why that sentence kept coming up. And of course “chevrolet” is a silly private joke referring to a Stevie Wonder song called Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing … and the background singers go “chévere”, which sounded like chevrolet to my young 15 year-old ears. But one of my very favourite Stevie Wonder songs is this one – You and I, We Can Conquer the World, though it didn’t become my favourite Stevie Wonder song until I heard someone else sing it – Diane Heatherington – in a little tea room/restaurant in Winnipeg I used to frequent called The Ting. She sang this song like nobody else and it always filled me up. I think if kd Lang ever sang it I would just crumple up and die of happiness…
Such beautiful lyrics, neither gender nor species specific.

This morning on my early run Stevie also came by with Mister know it all. Not as sensitive as this song. Never heard it before. i Thinks K.D is becoming hot again cause this is the second time in a day someone mentions her.

I’ll have to go and listen to Diane Heatherington.
I love KD Lang. She seems to have such an air of honesty about her. I heard there’s a new album out – Recollection. It’s a compilation of her best stuff but I see the tracks have all been remastered. Hope they haven’t burgered-up Constant Craving; that song makes the hair on the back of neck stand up every time I hear it … in a good way.

A few years ago my friend Darlene gave me a CD of kd covering songs of various other Canadian artists. It’s called Hymns of the 49th Parallel and it’s wonderful. ESPECIALLY her version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
Diane Heatherington used to belt out a mean Mack the Knife and also a very gritty version of I Wanna Be Evil. I would watch her in awe and wish I could be her …
