Today’s Photohunt theme is “sweet”.
It is Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Sevilla and the streets are full of processions depicting the Christ and Virgin during the various stages of The Passion … and walking in front of these pasos are the nazarenos (often mistaken for KKK members by visiting USians). But far from being sinister, nazarenos often hand out sweets to the children and help them collect colourful balls of wax from the variously coloured candles carried by the different cofradios.
Above you can see a selection of sweets made in the shape of nazarenos, as well as nazareno-shaped cardboard containers that have sweets inside. Weird you say? Well, you’ll get no argument from me on that one. My favourites are the multi-coloured “gummy-bear” nazarenos. They just seem so delightfully wrong somehow. 🙂

How interesting! But yes, they look like KKK and are a little creepy to me. Even if I didn’t know about KKK, I dislike the pointy hats. Quite unusual! But free sweets– yum!

Mmm. Sweet. RE your comment at TNChick, I’ve seen Peeps before, I’ve even eaten them. They have changed since I was five, and you wouldn’t want to eat them now. . .unless you really feel like your diet needs more artificial color, artificial flavor, high fructose corn syrup and preservatives.
I played today too. Iknow I promised more vacation but Photohunt supersedes that, I think. and I have a lot of work to do out in the garden. I need to plant potatoes, broccoli, and annual flower seeds plus pull a bunch of henbit, bluets, shepherds purse, chickweed and other volunteers before they go to seed in my day lily garden.
Have a Happy Easter! (heh heh.) The parades will be over soon, I promise, and they you will be free to wander the streets in peace and smell the azahar blooming.
