From what I can tell my RAM is divided in two, and everything but my wastepaper basket seems to be on the C drive. Can I just move stuff over to the E drive?
Earlier today I moved some files off the desktop to my Documents and the E drive stayed the same but the C drive went down from 3,0 to 2,79.
From looking at the screen dump, we are talking about Hard disk space not RAM?
Hmm – “My Documents” is still on the C drive so probably won’t help.
Yes – you should be able to move stuff to E – just make sure that you are only moving things that you recognise – that should prevent problems being caused by trying to move anything integral to Vista’s operation.
When did your recipes page go private? I tried to look up that lentil and chorizo stew the other day and couldn’t get on. I had to use one from some random page which wasn’t so good (or wouldn’t have been if I had managed to find any chorizo in the shops around here!).
Ah ok, you just renamed it – when I clicked on my old link it said it had gone private. I would’ve asked but the shops were about to close so didn’t have time! 🙂
Also, after deleting things, you should empty the recycle bin and delete the temp files, not sure how you do the latter in vista but it should be straightforward I guess (search for delete temp files?).
May I also suggest buying an external drive? I have two. One for work stuff which I have to lock away. The other I use for my personal stuff, including my photos. I download from my camera to my C:Drive and once I have edited them and uploaded them to Fotki or Facebook or whatever I move them to the the external drive. External drives are not expensive.
Well, I finally got around to making a backup (yes, already have an external drive Mudhooks – should get a second one probably) and then checked out that link again… and when I click on properties I just get three tabs, not including a Location one. So I’ve just opened up both the E and C drive pages, dragged and dropped my Pictures file over to the E drive and it says it should be done copying it in about an hour ( ! ). If that works out I’ll then delete the Pictures file on the C drive.
Well, the solution depends on what is filling your hard disk up!
Anything you can archive?
I don’t know Vista, but you could go looking for a temp folder and clear it out?
Also, you could try downloading a copy of somehting like Treesize Pro – then scan your C drive and it will tell you where the space is being used.

Hey az, long time no talk! You can move your “My Documents” folder to another drive, here’s how:

Oh great! I’ll have a look at that after lunch. Should be easy enough, right?
My kitchen blog didn’t go private – it’s right here!
And here is the lentil & chorizo stew.
Really, you could’ve just asked…
Hey, why not start a new scrabble game? I got a bit sidetracked before going to London.

Next thing you could do would be to defragment that C drive – right click on it and there should be a Tools option with disk defrag under that.
Only do it when you can afford to leave it to get on with it for quite a while though.
