Trying to look on the bright side of getting thrown out of my home after 16 years, I’ve decided that … I WANT ONE OF THESE. A rooftop terrace, not unlike I had in my first ever home in Sevilla when I had a tiny studio apartment across the street. In fact, have made my short check list and am going to try sticking to it. I mean, if I’m going to go through all the stress and hassle of moving then I am going to make it a change for the better. And so these are the three things I want:
- a lift
- air conditioning
- a terrace
I’ve actually looked at a couple of places since recovering from the shock of last Monday evening. Although I don’t have to move until March 1st I’ve decided that if I find something fabby between now and then I’ll just bugger off. In fact, I’d quite like to start the new year in a wonderful new apartment that will make leaving this place feel like a step forward.
Having had a quick look at current rental prices I am more than convinced now that I don’t have such a great deal here. Yes, I will miss my six balconies, my lovely views and all that light. But the plan is to find somewhere just as lovely except, well, better.
And now I am off to a weekend-long blogger’s conference.
What are you doing this weekend?
Watch this space…

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll come up with a flat even more amazing. Ask your cats 😉
This weekend, Christmas Bazaar at the Deaf Centre in Kiel (tomorrow), and pub evening on Sunday.
Tonight, Beaujolais nouveau! Forgot it yesterday.

Good luck with finding something better! Maybe even with central heating?
Oh, and can you take the washing machine, seeing as you’ve paid half of it? 😉

Just my two cents worth but you have months so if you need ’em use ’em. No point jumping from the frying pan into the fire. And next time remember;
1) a dodgy deal is a dodgy deal
2) You have afriendly lawyer so get him to check the contract BEFORE not after you sign it.
What are we doing this weekend?
RUGBY! Week 3 of the four week Autumn Internationals and England take on Samoa tomorrow.
And I’ll guess we’ll be watching season 2 of House. And some other stuff – Fringe, Burn Notice, Walking Dead. Maybe some Twin Peaks. But mostly House.

Don’t worry. After Paco was here the other night looking over my old contract he told me NOT to sign another one before he had a chance to look at it.
I caught a couple of episodes of Fringe about a month ago – should remember to keep watching it.
Rugby! Tell Sara I’m STILL not over it.

Having outdoor space like that more than outweighs space issues indoors, especially where the climate means that you can use the outdoor space for so many months of the year. I would imagine, too, that even in winter, plants are relatively safe.
Here, since you have to spend so much of your time indoors, you need a lot more indoor space.

This weekend will be spent making headway on chores I have left undone for far too long. I cleaned Mom’s bathroom yesterday.
On a side note, I got word that I may have a 3-month contract for Jan-Mar. What the terms will be, I don’t know. My employment with my company ends De. 31st but they will likely carry me over on a contract basis. I will have been working for 9 years for them so I cannot recall what the terms were when I was on contract back at the beginning. I vaguely recall that they deducted my taxes and Unemployment Insurance for me. I won’t have benefits but at least I can claim EI (Employment Insurance) when my contract(s) end. AND my company does the contract negotiations and filing so I don’t have to do that.
I fell a bit iffy about carrying on. On one hand, I am getting tired of the bureaucratic “work” involved and I want to be able to spend more time with Mom. However, on contract, I can work as many or as few hours as I choose without having to balance my company’s work requirements and the contract’s work requirements…

It’s 2am and just back from a magical mystery tapas tour with two guys from the blog conference (and Nog!)… it was great. The conference is a bit of a dud but I’m meeting interesting people. Anyhow, lots of nice chat and food tonight, and on the way home ran into an old pal who works at the bar across from my house. Told him what was going on with the landlords and he spat out “I’m not surprised, they are awful people and I hate them both!” … which kind of took me by surprise. And then kind of made me feel vindicated. And so we chatted a bit more about this and that. You know? It was a very good day. And I’m going to just keep working and meeting people and keeping myself “out there” because it seems that so many good things happen when I do that.
Thanks for all the comments today. I read them on my iPhone while I was out and they made me smile.
And now to bed! If you want to see our tapas from tonight look for the pics that have #magicalmysterytour next to them…

I’m glad you’ve found the positive in your situation, it always helps.
This weekend I’m nursing a swollen throbbing cheek. I had a tooth out on Tuesday and now I’m I’ve got an infection and look like I’m storing nuts for winter! And I’m dog-sitting my brother’s dog so my house will be a madhouse with two daft mutts running around.
I think locking myself in the bathroom this afternoon and having a long hot soak with a long good book is in order.
