Wow, I had no idea that I’d started ordering from Amazon so long ago. Though I remember why. Back in the day it was impossible to see any films here in original version, or even rent the orginal versions on video. I also didn’t realise it was possible to go back and trace ALL my Amazon orders until I saw that Beth had done this and found the first thing she’d ever ordered. Unlike Beth, Amazon has never sent me any gifts for being a good customer – after almost ten years you’d think they’d at least send along a little something from my Wish List (like maybe season 8 of 24 😉 ).
Anyhow, my first order was this video of Wilde, which I still have, though I think I also have a DVD version now. This was before I learned that if I ordered three items I got charged the same delivery fee as for one. These days delivery to Spain is free! Progress, eh?
What was your first Amazon order?
I’m even more amazed

So have you finished Little Bear’s Bedtime Board? I found it rather dense myself.

LOL
That was worth buying at the time for the toy – there wasn’t a Little Bear toy available in the shops on its own.

I never ordered from Amazon. Their sign-up procedure is a nightmare, so I stopped a few attempts. I’ve ordered from Virtualcity and Abebooks for about a decade now, though.
Would have to go and look for the exact date of my respective first order.

I don’t remember the sign-up procedure being difficult, but then I don’t actually remember it at all. Have never heard of the two places you mentioned.

Amazon is important around here. It is a place where I do a lot of purchasing, and it is also a place where I look into the products by reading the reviews (with a grain of salt). I don’t remember the sign up procedure at all. It has been several years.

Did you look up your very first order?

Same here, re signup — lost in the mists of memory, almost ten years to the day (1/12/01). The order was a book called “Hands,” not too surprisingly.

Curious comment from the guy who said he received used items when he ordered new ones. And who would try to sell a dog-eared highlighted book? I’ve always found Amazon pretty good for returns and refunds, the last item being that camcorder I bought as a back-up camera while Niko was (and still is) in hospital, which took awful photos. That Hands book looks very interesting. Speaking of which, I don’t think you were around when this happened.

I remember you alluding to that incident, which gives me the shivers.
The book didn’t turn out to be overwhelmingly fascinating, but it was a weird, exhilarating feeling to have a delivery in my very own mailbox from Amazon. I’d gotten mis-deliveries before meant for a person up the street, and felt like “oh, people with real jobs and big budgets can do this, wouldn’t it be nice…” The Amazon used book listings weren’t as copious in 2001. These days, I am almost better off ordering used books (some of them a penny plus shipping) than paying the library fines that pile up because I always feel too rushed and fried to make time for ONE MORE TRIP to a county library that’s increasingly become a noisy, crowded zoo.

It’s going to be something for the Kindle I received yesterday as a late Xmas present from my ex husband.
