Ever since Steve’s typo, I’ve been referring to my new home as “the palace”. This afternoon I signed the contract, handed over the deposit and am now – officially – the keeper of the keys, though I won’t actually pick them up until Friday morning. Apparently there is still some painting and minor repairs to do, and then the cleaning woman is going to come over the weekend and get everything spic and span…
Meanwhile, I’ll be moving some stuff over on Friday with Caroline, though I have yet to sort out the actual moving day or how I’m actually going to move. Today I spoke to Maria Paz’s son and he said he’d check out cheap van rentals and get back to me. So that bit is still up in the air. But wow! I have a signed contract and a new home. Go me!
That’s a good start 🙂
Moving out is no fun, especially the house cleaning part. Moving in on the other hand is mighty fun *thumbsup*

Tried getting the phone line and other utilities switched over today – not so easy! I won’t bore you with the boring details, but I should be able to get everything organised in the next day or two, though they said the phone line (including internet & tv) might take 15 days!!! Well, let’s hope they get it together by next Monday.
Just waiting for a moving guy to come over and give me an estimate. Says he could do the move on Sunday, which would actually suit me the best. Friday I’ll be moving over the fragile stuff with Caroline, Saturday I’ll be at the new place with the cleaners and getting things organised there, so a Sunday morning move would be perfect.
Fingers crossed he’s not too expensive…

When we moved to New York, we worked ahead to get the phones hooked up. My ex was going to be there for two weeks before while I finished packing and made the arrangements for the moving van. My husband phoned frequently so we knew the phone was working but when a MAJOR hiccup with the van at the border cropped up and we needed to get him to fax forms to the border, I couldn’t get through.
I managed to get the landlady to get him to call me but whenever I called him, the phone just rang and rang.
When I finally got down there, I called the telephone company and they said the phone line was hooked up and I could call out but people calling in didn’t get through. It took several months to find out that the phone line was actually the former tenant’s who died 4 years before. We finally got our phone hooked up but we could have scored big if we’d been able to figure out what the old number was because, according to the phone company, the phone didn’t exist. We’d have been able to call anywhere for free.

Well, I guess we can forget hiring a moving company. This is apparently one of the cheapest in town and the guy just quoted me 550 euros (!!!)
Back to the drawing board…
