One of the great things about living in my new barrio is that I come across great deals like this at the local supermarket – gambones (giant prawns) for just 11€ a kilo. How could I pass them up? But what to do with them? Well, after a bit of thought about a light low-carb meal I went for the easy option – a killer prawn, chorizo & spinach risotto. Whatever.
What would you have done with them?
I also got a couple of big fat tuna steaks for next to nothing that I’m now off to grill with a bit of lemon and garlic. Totally loving my new neighbourhood…

Yummm… and I have to tell you that I have exactly the same blue glass bowl. I keep my shell collection in it!

I got that bowl as a birthday gift about ten years ago from Maria Paz (my friend who runs Bar Campanario). It’s now used as a fruit bowl in the new kitchen, but I thought it would make a nice contrast colour for the prawns.

And so it does! I can’t recall where I got mine, now. I know I bought it when I was still married, so about 10-12 years ago.

Giant prawns used to be really cheap here in Korea. Sadly, like most food prices here, they have skyrocketed. I would have simply steamed them and enjoyed!

They usually cost a lot more, almost twice as much. Apparently these ones were from Argentina, which I only saw on the ticket after getting them home. Weird.

The truthful answer is, I wouldn’t buy any in the first place, because I imagine them to be trouble to make (and I tend to leave stuff for a few days in the fridge before cooking it, which may be unadvisable with seafood).
But, in a dreamland where I would get some gambones, and assuming no restriction on kitchen equipment, I would either use them in a risotto or paella or something, or barbecue them. This makes them soooo annoying to eat, but very tasty, drool.

I find it harder to be someone else, but that may well be just my own experience 😛

But after I get my bbq for the terrace I won’t have to be so envious of yours.

Right now, I’m really into putting shrimp on salads of various kinds, as well as Asian salad rolls. YUM! I wish I had access to this kind of seafood, so I envy your location!
