Was a time when we would sift through our old photos and select our favourites to save in pretty photo albums, or at least we would store them away properly to keep for posterity. In fact, a few years ago I had a go at doing this very thing with a couple of scary boxes stuffed full of old pics, some that I’d even brought over from Canada, and many from the UK. Well, they are still in those boxes. The job has so far proved to be too mind-numbingly tedious to dedicate a full day of my life to.
Then along came digital cameras and suddenly I not only had a few hundred old photos in a box to sort out, but also several thousand scattered throughout various files in my laptop. And well, today was the day. I sat myself down and did the first clean-up, which took about four hours. And I have to say I have a real sense of accomplishment, though some of the sub-files will need further editing. But at least now I know where everything is! What a great feeling.
I always select a few of the best photos from each occassion to print off and put in an actual album. Clicking through a bunch of photos on a laptop just isn’t the same as cosying up on a sofa with a pile of albums to trek down memory lane. But I do try to keep on top of it because you’re quite right – it is a mind-numbingly boring job!

I don’t mind looking at images onscreen, especially as my printer is a crappy ink-jet and ends up going stripey all the time. But I’d like to get those boxes sorted one of these days.

I’m afraid that I an the digital equivalent of a hoarder. I can’t bear to get rid of anything but the truly bad images… Even so, I will still use some of the crappy ones for “fiddly with” with my software. I have been pretty good recently about getting rid of most of the ones that aren’t the best.
I have boxes which still have to go into albums and I still have to sit down with the parental unit to go through the family albums, identify who and what, and then scan an upload them.

Ufff, I haven’t even begun to go through the files and delete the unwanted images – just getting them organised was enough work for one day. Not sure I’ll bother, but as I take at least half a dozen shots of each tapa you can imagine the number of pics I have that I don’t actually need to keep.
I did some scanning and uploading of the boxed photos once … arrgh. Never again.
