I feel so darned grown up – last Friday I bought me a 1.65 metre ladder! It’s kind of like when I bought my first drill. Not only was it something that I no longer had to go around borrowing from neighbours, but in fact neighbours started borrowing mine!
And well, my new next door neighbours, Colm & Lidia, have a ladder that I’ve borrowed on occasion. But it’s not a very tall ladder and my ceilings are 3.5 metres high. So when I saw this baby on special offer (it’s exactly this one, brand name Altipesa, but with three more rungs) I just had to have it.
It’s great. I can now change ceiling lightbulbs, remove curtains for washing, dust ceiling air vents, all that fun stuff. Oh, and while living here on my own I can now also close my livingroom curtains at night. Because they aren’t very slidy on the curtain rods they need to be pulled from high up. I need to find some “grabbers” for that job, but for now the ladder will do.
Lightweight and sturdy, my new ladder lives out on one of the balconies, out of (my) sight. I’m told that there is no problem leaving it out in The Weather, but I may look for another home for it. And that’s today’s news! What an exciting life I lead…
A gal knows she’s really “made it” when she buys a ladder!

Or maybe one of these…?

We have this really great one that uncorks, removes the cork from the screw itself, and recorks. Not electric my takes seconds to open the wine and Mom can use it without help. Very handy.

I have no idea what that is but it looks like it could be an electric bottle opener! I’m quite sure it’s not but I wouldn’t be *that* surprised.

It’s a cordless electric corkscrew! Fab, innit.

I meant corkscrew, of course – d’oh! It actually is one? That really is fab!

I think it’s actually a cordless screwdriver with a corkscrew attachment, which is pretty cool. Two birds…

Cool! This is actually the very best corkscrew I have ever found. Basic but that little joint in the middle makes all the difference and gently eases corks out.

Lucky you! I wanted to keep our ladder on the balcony, but my husband (who is a lot taller than me) told me it ‘wasn’t needed’. This means I climb on chairs on chairs to reach things high up because I can’t be bothered to go two and a half floors down to get the ladder from the cellar.

That’s very mean of your husband! I guess it would have made more sense to keep the ladder out on the terraza upstairs except it would still be out in The Weather and I’m more likely to use it down here so want it to be easily accessible. You can see it from the street but it’s not an eyesore or anything, and I think most people looking up would be admiring my lovely balcony plants…

It’s the curse of living with tall people (and I’m not exactly tiny).
