Today I did something I have never attempted before… I took two cats to the vet’s at once! Well, with the help of Peter. And I have to say that I couldn’t have done it without him. Not only was it a two-person job getting both cats into the carrier but I never could have lifted the thing. Turned out there was 10 kilos of cats in there (Loki 7.1kg and Luna 2.9kg). Luckily there’s a taxi stand just a couple of minutes from the house.
It was also less traumatic than I’d anticipated. Luna was her usual quiet self – I have never known a cat that didn’t scream blue murder when going to the vet’s. And although Loki was clearly upset and made a fair bit of noise, he seemed to be comforted by Luna’s serene presence. Though I did worry he might crush her to death as he was all over the place in the carrier.
Anyhow, got there and back again with quite a few things done. Both cats got their vaccination booster shots and a check up. They were also both treated for all kinds of parasites (Luna’s worms came back a couple of times and I was concerned they weren’t totally killed off) with a pill and then a topical solution that got dabbed on the backs of their heads. I now have to do the same here for Azar. Oh, and Yolanda also clipped everyone’s claws, which isn’t something they easily let me do at home. So, 112 euros later we were back home and everyone was relieved to have the ordeal over and done with.
That’s it now until mid-January when I’ll be taking Luna in to get sterilized… €€€!!!
They may have thought it was a theme park ride…

Poor kitties… There is NO WAY that I would have taken both cats to the vet when we still had two cats. Just be thankful that neither of the cats had explosive diarrhea in the carrier… Trust me.

The night of the fire I had no option but to shove both Azar and Loki into the big carrier (didn’t have the small one then) and Azar peed all over, getting both of them wet and smelly. So after we were finally allowed back home I had to give the boys a bath. Fun, fun, fun… though not as bad as explosive diarrhea would’ve been. Ick.

Apparently I have to put Loki and Luna on diets. I was shocked to see that Loki now weighs a whopping 7.1 kilos. Yolanda says that at two years old this is a Bad Thing as he will probably just keep getting fatter if I don’t do something now. Ditto for Luna, who isn’t hugely overweight but is getting quite a belly on her. But I don’t get it. At the rate she tears around the place she shouldn’t have a belly at all.
I think the main problem is that all the cats are on different food and, while I measure out the daily required amounts for Loki and Luna, Azar can basically eat as much and as often as he likes. Yoland seemed surprised to hear how well Azar is doing, that he has a good appetite and drinks a lot. Anyhow, I can’t just put out the daily amount for everybody in the morning or Loki would eat it all at once. As it is they like to play “musical bowls” and eat each other’s food, which makes feeding times a bit fraught as one of us has to stick around to keep them straight. Which I admit we don’t always do. And especially during the five hundred daily feedings that Azar demands, we will often give him a small amount and leave him to it, only to see a couple of minutes later that one of the other two has muscled in and is chowing down.
So, I dunno. It’ll be a bit easier when Luna goes off the kitten food and I only have two diets to deal with. Maybe.

Here’s a cute shot that I tweeted yesterday of the vet “house cat” and Loki, who seemed quite intrigued by this other guy (at least he shut up!). Notice paw resting on P’s hand for reassurance.

Loki is bigger than Lynx nowadays! Lynx is below 7 kg in spite of being a very gluttonous cat.
It’s worth to keep cats in shape. Li’lkitty and Her Supreme Catesty have grown downright fat since they (and dragonprincess) moved to a Lair of their own two years ago. I sponsor diet food and have advised my daughter no not give them anything but what’s recommended. Till both cat ladies are around and even over 6 kg – and Li’lkitty is not the smallest cat anymore…
