I’ve been following journalist Lesley Jones (@lesleyjones) on Twitter for awhile now and I especially enjoy her Bedtime Questions. Last night she asked “what normal thing have you never done?” and it prompted some very interesting and unexpected replies, so I thought I’d ask the same thing here.
Me? I’ve never learned to swim. I can float on my back if the water is calm (so I guess I could maybe do a backstroke) but if I flip over it’s more flailing than swimming, with the eventual sinking… and as for treading water, forget about it. I hardly know anyone else who can’t swim.
How about you?
I can’t belch/burp. Not even intentionally. Never have done.

I cannot ride a bicycle. I actually bought one once, and tried to practice, but I always ended up on my back with the bike tangled in my legs. I do not believe it is actually possible to ride a bike and speculate that all the people we see riding them are holographic projections created by a clever animator.

I actually know a few people who can’t swim either. I can swim, but I’m not great with treading water.
I can’t whistle or snap my fingers. I just can’t do it. I don’t have much of an urge to learn how to do either though.

Oh, and also I have never used an ATM cash machine thingy and do not plan ever to do so.

Whistling and finger snapping are two things I can’t do, either.

I can’t think of something that I haven’t done that would be “normal”.

I can’t curl my tongue despite trying for ages in front of a mirror when I was young! However, I understand you either can or can’t and no amount of practising is going to make any difference … but I secretly hoped to prove everyone wrong, alas to no avail!!! 🙂
