…but is mostly okay, best to leave well enough alone?
That is the question. IKEA finally sent someone over to assess my complaint and he somehow got the drawers to slide in and out, albeit not smoothly, but he admitted defeat after trying to secure the one errant screw that has, well, screwed things up. So he took some photos and said he would send a report to HQ and they’d get back to me. But now what? The drawers are more or less working and, as long as I don’t move the bed, I doubt the unsecured board will shift again. I don’t know what else IKEA can offer, other than another base.
Meanwhile… I LOVE my new bed. The mattress is a combination of coils with a thick layer of latex on top. At first I thought it was too soft, but that is only when I sit on the edge of it. Actually lying down and sleeping on it is a dream. I also like that it’s smaller than the old king-size one and doesn’t take up the whole room, though it’s still roomy at 150 x 190 cms. And now that it’s cool enough for the duvet it’s a lovely cosy & comfy experience going to bed. Especially as the two young’uns have started joining me.
It looks great. I love the orange & white, it looks warm and fresh at the same time.
I bought a double duvet set from Ikea the other week and was delighted that they seem to sell four pillow cases as standard. Genius! Generally in the UK it’s just the two so if you have two pillows each side you need to find a couple of spare covers from somewhere.

Weird thing about that photo is that the orange came out nicely but my walls are actually pale green.
I opted for a standard size mattress (instead of IKEA size) because I didn’t want to have to buy all my sheets, etc there. This means the mattress is a bit smaller than the base, but it actually looks okay having a bit of the wood showing all round. An IKEA duvet set wouldn’t work for me because I don’t have an IKEA duvet. Glad it worked out for you!

By the way an IKEA opens here in 2 weeks. I won’t be buying a bed in fact with all the hype I likely will wait until summer!

Your first IKEA?? Wow, Winnipeg is more backwards than I thought. 😉

True in some respects but it sure has changed since you were last here! There is a new Human Rights Museum opening soon at the Forks that will put Winnipeg back on the map. But I do appreciate the humour. I recently came across a photo of you sitting at my kitchen table, maybe 24 years ago. I forgot about it thinking I only had the ones when we lived together. I think that was probably the last time I saw you in person. I sincerely hope that I see you in Seville with a copy of this picture, memories to share, new stories to tell and a tapas tour! Keep well!

Scary stuff. They called while I was hanging laundry on the roof and left a number for me to call them back. Well, ten minutes later I was still choosing menu options so I hung up and have left a private message to IKEA on Twitter for them to call me back. We shall see…

My eyes are so blurry at the end of the day I thought I saw the words “a combination of coils with a kitteh on top.” Well yes!!

Beds are always better with a kitteh on top. 🙂

Friday afternoon… half a dozen phone calls from IKEA HQ later I have got what is fair. At first they said they would replace the bed frame. Fair enough. But when I said they also had to install the new bed frame they pointed out that I hadn’t paid for installation….
…….
That is the pause for you to imagine what I had to say about that. So then IKEA called me back to say they would be happy to bring me a new bed frame and install it, but I would have to dismantle the present bed frame….
…….
So I had to explain a few things…
…….
Final solution! IKEA is coming on Tuesday with a new bed frame. They will take apart the old one, and put together the new one.
……..
I mean, it’s bad enough that I’ll have to spend half of Tuesday with these guys after having spent Good Money on a Defective Product. Seriously… they thought I was going to lose even more time taking apart the old bed and then spend two more hellish days putting the new one together? To say I was VERY FIRM about this not happening would be pretty much accurate.
