Leave it to me to get a craving for salads as soon as the temperatures plummet (and it starts snowing on my blog!). But this past week or so, for no reason I can fathom, I am suddenly craving lots of crisp leafy greens with grated carrot, sliced onion and some chunks of high-quality preserved tuna (bonito). And when I say crave I mean that once lunchtime starts approaching I can almost feel the crunch of carrot and lettuce and taste the extra virgin olive oil with balsamic vinegar.
What the heck. I’m not going to question this. Of course it might be even healthier (or at least more slimmifying) if I didn’t accompany my salady lunch with a big chunk of pan gallego, but I’m guessing that having this fabulous bread option is what got me interested in salads again. Because really, what goes better with nice crusty bread, no matter what the weather is like? So I reckon I am now getting about 3 a day at lunch.
What’s your favourite way of getting enough veg in your diet?
Eating more steak. Cows eat veg, I eat cow, therefore I eat veg.
Joking aside, I sometimes just buy some vegetable and try and see what to cook with it afterwards. Or salad, that is, some lettuce to go with the cheese (between the main dish and the sweet). Hmm, now I think of it, I don’t really have a trick to eat as much vegetable as I probably should.

That only works with cats, because they also eat the entrails of mice, etc, and get the veg inside them that way. Which I’m guessing you don’t do with cow.

Yes indeed. Well, I do eat cow’s innards, but they are usually cleaned of anything vegetal before being cooked. I hope 😉

I love salads at any time of year. Not that I don’t love home-made soup on cold days, too!

The weird thing is that I have never met a vegetable I didn’t like. I have more trouble getting enough fruit. It’s not that I don’t like fruit, more that I never get around to them, so I try to have at least one glass of fruit juice a day.
Have never been a soup person, but think I’ll happily go with this new salad craze for as long as it takes me.

As a vegetarian it is almost inevitable. Although on days when I am really rushing and living on protein bars, I try to offset it when I do have a moment by whizzing some celery, spinach and carrots through the juicer with a couple apples. The pulp seems like an awful waste, but I compost it. Even my earthworms live well.
