I (almost) never get political here, or anywhere else for that matter. But these past two years I have learned more about US politics than I ever thought possible. I follow developments daily, more so than I do with Spanish politics. And it’s all because of You Know Who. Comedian John Mulaney put it best when he said Trump in the White House is like having a Horse in a Hospital (you can see the full brilliant version on his Netflix special The Comeback Kid)…
But at least this morning the news from the USA is optimistic for the first time since Trump took office. Sure, there were some disappointments, and much justified anger and frustration about obvious voter suppression by the GOP. But the blue wave did happen, at least for the House of Congress which now holds 219 Democratic seats over 193 Republican.
Well done America. Keep fighting! The rest of us need you.

We’re tired, but we’re not done.
I’ve been offline a lot other than scrolling through Twitter because it’s so exhausting. Just every day he does something else that’s worse than you had already imagined. Today, because it might rain, he’s not going to go a few miles to Arlington Cemetery for Veterans’ Day ceremonies and observances. You can bet every American who ever served in the armed forces is watching. (My favorite way to respect veterans is to avoid making more veterans — but respect is owed.)
I mean, fuck. My father played in the Army Band for 17 years (rounding out his 20 that started during WWII) and regularly, he was on the rotation to play military funerals. That was in the 50s and 60s. These days I think the observances are more sparing — I may be wrong — when my late and ex’s urn was put in the columbarium at Arlington in 2007, there was a single bugler. But some funerals got a small band then and may still. Do you know what it’s like to keep a brass instrument in tune in the cold and wet? You don’t get to carry an umbrella, and those dress whites don’t clean themselves.
I used to say we had Caligula in the White House, but even Caligula had more gumption. This is more like Nero. Without the musicianship.

When shit like this shows up all over twitter and every news outlet I always wonder what’s going on behind the scenes. Clearly some sort of distraction tactic.
