As of Monday the C5 circular bus route is back in action after a five-year absence. The latest version of this tiny electric microbus is 6 metres long, has seating for 12 (standing room for 8) including space reserved for people with reduced mobility and wheelchair access. The circular route is similar to the old one and is especially useful for residents in these areas where the streets are too narrow for any other public transport. For example, it stops directly next to my health centre (!!) which I discovered when Peter and I rode the C5 this afternoon. Although it takes a bit longer as it’s not exactly a direct route (see below) it would have been handy when I went to the health centre in the pouring rain on Monday.
There are four mini buses in service and they run every 30 minutes. As well as connecting residents to shops and services in the Casco Antiguo, it’s also a great alternative sightseeing bus. Though the route is not quite so winding and seemingly random as it used to be, it’s good to see it back.
