How do you deal with it?

Do you get hurt and angry and seek revenge and/or restitution?

Do you agree with Oscar Wilde who once said, “The only thing worse in the world than being talked about is not being talked about” ?

Or do you just ignore it?

Also, there seems quite a difference between gossip spread amongst a handful of friends or work colleagues and blabbing stuff all over internet forums. I mean, aside from the first being called slander and the second libel 😉

And where does one draw the fine lines between exchanging information, gossiping and rumour-mongering?

housecleaning

Does anyone actually enjoy housecleaning?

My flat is generally tidy(ish) but far from sparkling clean. In fact, the only people I know who have sparkling clean homes are those who have someone come in to do this for them. But also those homes somehow never look comfortable or ‘lived in’.

I was moved to write about this as Nog and I are doing a bit of serious Autumn cleaning at the moment, brought about by the gaaaaaaa! factor. Which basically means that the state of the place has made us both go gaaaaaaa! And we have decided that once this is all done we are going to maintain a simple weekly cleaning schedule so that things don’t get so out of hand … you know, kind of a Monday-Friday thing with set chores for each day.

I mean, we always get basic stuff done like laundry, washing up, bit o’ sweeping, basic bathroom maintenance … but things like dusting the bookshelves, cleaning the fridge and kitchen cupboards, dealing with general clutter, etc often get put off.

So, is it just us or do most people put off these sorts of cleaning chores until the gaaaaaaa! factor hits? If you happen to be a very organised housecleaning type person, are there any tips you can offer?

eye glasses

eyeglasses.jpg Why do glasses cost so bloody much?

This morning I discovered that my prescription sunglasses had gone missing. Perhaps I’d left them at Modesto last night … and it is a serious truth that I cannot go outside in bright sunlight without my sunglasses because, well, it really HURTS my eyes.

So stopped by my usual opticians to see if I could find something I liked and I found a great pair of glasses that, unfortunately, wouldn’t work well as sunglasses as the inner bright green rim would be lost with a dark lens, which was the reason I liked them in the first place. Just as well as those ended up being Prada glasses and costing 200 euros.

Then I saw these really cool dark purple ones … tried them on. They were AMAZING. Fit my face perfectly (not an easy thing to do, given the SIZE of my face) looked cool and also sturdy enough to last a few years. Also liked the silver doohicky on the side. Turned out these ones were Bulgari and cost 300 euros! Like, WTF?

Why???

Why do these glasses cost so much? And why are the only glass frames that I ever like and suit me end up being these outrageously expensive ones? Because I couldn’t give a fiddler’s fart about designer brand names. Yet it always ends up the same. Though my tastes seem to be going rather ‘up market’ without my permission.

Last glasses I bought eight years ago were cute Benetton red wire frames for every day and some Armani clones by a company called Vogue for my prescription sunglasses. And they weren’t cheap either, just not quite as expensive as Armani’s would have been.

I’m honestly not interested at all in buying a designer brand name. In fact, it would be kinda embarrassing to wear glasses saying Bulgari on the side because people will snigger and think – what a dork for paying way too much for a pair of purple sunglasses.

Except there aren’t any other possible sunglasses. That fit. Are comfortable. Look nice.

Basically something that I’d want to put on my face.

And there is no way I can afford them anyhow, except Manolo is offering me a deal to pay them off over six months with no interest …

panic attacks

panic.gif How do you cope with them?

Panic attacks affect a lot of us and are often not very well understood, even by those experiencing them.

They also take many forms. They can feel like an impending sense of death or doom, a fear of losing one’s sanity, a feeling of losing control … all of which create a very strong sense of FEAR and panic.

What types of remedies or methods for controlling this feeling of panic work best for you?

noodly-appendage.JPG Pope prepares to embrace theory of intelligent design

After having had the recent pleasure of seeing the latest Bill Moyer’s series on Faith and Reason, it’s a bit shocking to be brought back into so-called REALITY where people are not nearly as enlightened. Nor as thoughtful, as intelligent, as reasonable.

Will the Pope now be condemning the teaching of evolutionary theory in the same manner that the Holy Roman Church lies to their flock about the effective use of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS in third world countries? And possibly more importantly, is the Vatican getting into bed with fundamentalist right wing American extremists?

Why would the Pope want or need to do this? Does he feel the power of the Vatican is slipping?
