So that’s the awards season over (right? or have I missed some?). I don’t know about you but I feel increasingly out of it when I either watch or read about these awards shows these days. Especially MTV – have no idea who most of those people are, other than the ones receiving lifetime acheivement awards. And although I’ve got used to not knowing what half the films up for awards are about on Oscar night I was shocked this time to realise I didn’t even recognise a lot of the actors on the red carpet. I can’t blame all of this on living in Spain and mostly seeing tv series and films after they come out on DVD. I suspect it has some connection to the fact that so many world leaders are now younger than me – what do you think?

“It’s been too hard livin’ but I’m afraid to die…”
This isn’t much of a video but it’s the only one I could find of my favourite version of Sam Cooke’s classic, sung by the inimitable Aaron Neville. This is how I’m feeling this weekend. Like a change is coming. Hope it’s a good one!

This song has been in my head since writing yesterday’s post about my northern Spain adventure, remembering that gawd-awful food & travel series of the same name, which also used this as its theme song. The series wouldn’t have been so unbearable if it hadn’t featured La Paltrow as one of the four travelling companions. I mean, why bring some scrawny cranky vegan actress along? Why bring anyone along on a food journey across Spain who DOESN’T EAT JAMÓN???
So I probably won’t be adopting this as my theme song when I do my own travel & food adventure next summer, and anyhow it won’t be a “road trip” as I’ll be taking public transit. But I do love Willie’s braids, don’t you?
